Our nation's foundation in Christianity is revealed by its calendar. This year is 2026 A.D. The A.D. is an abbreviation for the Latin phrase "anno domini" which means in the year of our lord: ie. our lord Christ Jesus.

Interestingly and less well known is the fact that the setting of our clocks is also based on the birth of Jesus. Our clock's going rate is more regular than the sun. The sun moves a little faster or a little slower than our clocks during the course of the year.

Look up the "Equation of Time" on the internet and you will see that "12 o'clock noon" was set to agree with solar noon on December 25th, Christmas Day !

That respect for others religious beliefs grew out of the centuries long, often violent conflict between Christian sects in Great Britain. Think Catholic vs. Protestant and the use of state power to force religious views on heretics.

We live in a very different world today. We should and do tolerate differing religious views in our community. But we do not have to tolerate religious views that would destroy our freedoms. We do not have to tolerate Islamic extremism. We do not have to tolerate religious/philosophical views that reduce the Creator to a cipher and make Man the Supreme Power in the world.
