🔴🎤 My TED talk is live! "Hip Hop's Problem Solving Framework" speaks to both those unfamiliar with the greatness of the culture, but also those of us who are. I think is reminds us all just how much Hip Hop can help save America -- and the world -- at a time when it is needed more than ever.
Please enjoy, like, share, comment, and let me know what you think. Unless you hate it, then you can just keep that to yourself 😂

No rap songs on Billboard top 40 doesn't equal "HiP hOp Is DeAd!!" It just means there's no such thing as "mainstream Hip Hop" anymore. And honestly, that's fine. Because the spectrum of creativity and brilliance and diversity in rap music has never been greater.
So, what I suggest folks who seem to care so much about rap and Hip Hop do, is -- instead of eulogizing the music and culture -- is spend that energy uplifting the greatness that exists *outside* of outdated and insignificant entities like Billboard.
Otherwise, what are we really doing?
And to those who would say "OK Manny, but all this horrible music/imagery is damaging our children," I would ask you to go to your local school board and insist that they introduce Hip Hop in elementary school.
"Wait. What?! Elementary school?? EXPLAIN!!"
OK. Here.

Shouts to the journalists who respect Hip Hop as a *culture* reaching out to cover my new book, "Hip Hop Can Save America! Inspiration for the Nation from a Culture of Innovation" -- especially cuz it's not just me in it, but a dozen brilliant Black & brown & allied folks who care about uplifting communities that have been traditionally underserved, under-resourced, and under-loved.
I look forward to hearing from other media folk who are similarly -- *actually* -- "for the culture."
👀👂📨 I'm here.

What a joy to visit @RutgersU each Spring to mentor, but also learn from, my incredible Hip Hop Youth Research and Activism Conference family.
An academic and performance-based conference organized by undergrads which focuses on the ways in which Hip Hop culture -- the REAL and COMPLETE Hip Hop culture -- is more potent and powerful than ever at finding ways to add joy to the world, and fuel the ongoing fight for social justice.
Shouts to the program founder, the inimitable Lauren Kelly aka @djdutchesss, all the other advisors, and especially, the @hhyrac crew.
Special shouts to the good homie @Kembaland who I've known and admired for quite some time, who I had the priviledge and honor of interviewing for the keynote fireside chat.
When I hear "Hip Hop," THIS is what I think of. The work continues to make sure the rest of the world does too. Thanks to the HHYRA, we're one step closer.
