Are Tier-2 towns really the future of India?

I have believed so for years. But a recent conversation shook that belief.

One of my closest childhood friends, whom I have known for over 40 years, is leaving Jaipur for Bengaluru. He has sold his home.

He is already in a C-level role, earning around ₹60 LPA. But he says he has hit a ceiling in Jaipur.

His new Bengaluru offer: ₹1.3 crore per year.

Yes, his living costs will nearly double. But the real draw is access - more senior roles, ambitious peers, capital, and opportunities.

The painful part? His parents are in their 80s and are unlikely to move.

Talent will not stay where opportunity stops.

The real test for Tier-2 India is not whether people can start careers there - but whether they can build world-class ones without leaving their families behind.
