I usually start with a 'what if', and then, only much later in the process, I work out the lenses that I think work best to see this through.
With geopolitical thriller, I plotted it out then thought - I would like to see this through the eyes of someone from the age of empires.

@tonyhenandez790 I believe that it depends on how it is written, why you are adding it, and whether it moves the story forward.
I don't think this applies to many things, like violence, language, action etc.
It it like that well-known gardening quote: "right plant, right place".
