The City Council proposed to levy a license fee of Kshs. 100,000 per shop for the bunting and the under-canopy lights.

The lights and bunting were removed overnight by traders, never to be seen again.

On March 14, 1978, the New Nairobi International Airport at Embakasi opens to the skies.

The airport's name was later changed to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in honor of Kenya's first President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

In 1996, Kenya's 2nd President Daniel arap Moi addressed a gathering of Kenyans and Tanzanians at the Namanga border.

He urged the peoples of the two countries to live in peace and donated 20 bulls 🐂for a feast following the peace rally.

Mzee Jomo Kenyatta invited the first foreign dignitary to Kenya after independence, Emperor Haile Selassie.

The Ethiopian leader was the Chief Guest at the Madaraka Day Celebration in 1964.

Kenya celebrated its first anniversary of self-rule.

Mzee Jomo Kenyatta listens as the Kenya Rifles band performs a revised band version of the Kenya National Anthem.

Graham Hyslop, Washington Omondi, George Senoga-Zake, Peter Kibukosya, and Thomas Kalume wrote the Anthem in 1963.

Grace married a teacher and journalist, Onyango Baridi, who died in 1969, leaving her with six children.

After the death of Kisumu Mayor Mathias Ondiek in 1965, Grace Onyango joined the race to replace him.

Defying Cultural Barriers.

Hon. Grace Monica Akech Onyango (born June 26, 1924), popularly known as Nya'Bungu (Daughter of the Bush), was a retired Kenyan educationist and politician.

She was posted back to her high school, Ng'iya Girls, as a teacher. 3 years later, she was recalled to Vihi-ga Teachers Training College to work as a trainer.
