I think there are two Mishimas. One is his image, "vibes", or "myth." As one woman put it, "Oh, Mishima: a writer, a gay man, a bodybuilder, a fighter pilot, an actor, a rebel!" You can just identify with that. The other Mishima is his books, which you actually need to read.
It fills me with despair that Yukio Mishima is being discussed so frequently at such a low level on here now. Is there truly nothing to say about Japan's greatest author that isn't about his homosexuality or suicide? How about his books, has anyone read those?
His works are also a problem. They're multifaceted. He wrote fiction, essays, he studied Wang Yangming's thought. Most of this isn't available to Western readers, and Western critics tend not to find it especially interesting.
"formerly enserfed peasants living on feudal manor estates serving absentee Prussian aristocrats were living in the GULAG serving former pale of settlement dwellers"
"you're a Slav, you must be Orthodox!"
within one generation of Orthodoxy being banned, formerly enserfed peasants living on feudal manor estates serving absentee Prussian aristocrats were sending a man into the heavens to punch out the teeth of God.
@UrizenVid Yeah. But he started drifting into schizophrenia much earlier. I heard bizarre gnostic takes from him as early as 2020, I think. I remember wondering, "What religion is that?!" because he was a friend of Christians at least nominally. Seems, it's the fate of a Russian nationalist
@jesmkifa2 It's a big problem. Many people view history unhistorically, so the Russian Empire is reduced to serfdom and depravity, while the USSR means Brezhnev-era stability and tech, Khrushchev's first space flight, the diplomacy and culture of early Gorbachev, and Stalin on top of it all
@jesmkifa2 He's not a communist but a schizokhokhol who first fled the US to Russia and then exiled himself to Thailand tho. It seems he read "De-Zionisation," got into Marcionism, and awokened to ladyboys or something
Also, Orthodoxy has never been banned. The state did many things to curb the Church influence, but it didn't just ban the faith. And at different times policies varied.
@sadreturns Szondi took his photographs from psychiatric atlases and handbooks. So they are anonymous patients who were treated by psychiatrists. Some of their cases may be described in older books in more detail, but I haven't read them.
@ZealousSeraphim "Gendō is Char" doesn't sound so weird now, does it? And if you watch Victory, you'll see how Tomino developed this theme and how Anno responded to it.
Aleksandr Dugin, enemy of the West, on Europe, writing in The Foundations of Geopolitics. Does this seem to mesh with Russian strategy to undermine and then colonize Europe?
"All tendencies towards European unification around Germany (Central Europe) will have a positive meaning only if one fundamental condition for creating a strong geopolitical and strategic axis Moscow-Berlin is observed. By itself, Central Europe does not have sufficient political and military potential to gain effective independence from US Atlanticist control. Moreover, in the current conditions it is difficult to expect a genuine geopolitical and national awakening from Europe without the revolutionary influence of the Russian factor. The European Empire without Moscow and, more broadly, Eurasia, is not only incapable of fully organizing its strategic space with a shortage of military power, political initiative and natural resources, but also in a civilizational sense does not have clear ideals and guidelines, since the influence of the Trade System and market liberal values deeply paralyzed the foundations of the national worldview of European peoples, undermined their historical organic value systems. The European Empire will become a full-fledged geopolitical and civilizational reality only under the influence of a new ideological, political and spiritual energy from the depths of the continent, i.e. from Russia. In addition, only Russia and the Russians will be able to provide Europe with strategic and political independence and resource autarchy. Therefore, the European Empire should be formed precisely around Berlin, which is on a straight and vital axis with Moscow."
It is clear that Dugin's ambition in Europe (West Eurasia, as he sees it) is to revitalize a political object like the USSR that's greater in extent and that isn't so strictly committed to internationalist Communism, and part of his ambition means Russia takes control of most of Europe, sort of like a protectorate run from Berlin.
This is the kind of garbage that will start a world war again.
@sadreturns Szondi's idea seem to be biology and psychology linked through genetics. A person inherits drives from his ancestors and is attracted to other people who share those drives.
A mutual told me about this test so I'm not so familiar with it. But I also found it kinda "accurate."
@sadreturns This is the most basic interpretation, which doesn't say much. But it presents the result as a matrix of vectors, and there's a 100‑page compendium on how to interpret it. thttps://szondiforum.org/The%20Szondi%20Test%20-%202012.pdf
