"They [who] seek to establish systems of government based on the regimentation of all human beings by a handful of individual rulers...call this a new order. It is not new and it is not order." FDR, March 15, 1941
"I call all the shots." DJT, June 7, 2026
I honestly wonder who thought it was a good idea, on the anniversary of D-Day, to have a speech in which the Secretary's own ideology is set in metaphorical parallel to the Nazis opposing the beaches being stormed on D-Day.
“The president inhabits a position of moral leadership. When the president and his officials sell their policies, they’re selling a version of what it means to be an American”
I wrote about the Trump administration, the boat strikes, and St. Augustine.
I'm grateful to @DouthatNYT for inviting me on his podcast to discuss the fate of the liberal arts and humanities in the age of AI. I hope that all those who follow higher ed and care about the liberal arts will listen.

I can't help but notice these lists of 'great men' are all men who were great at killing. In the case of Alexander or (fictional!) Achilles, great at killing and *nothing else.*
No scientists, artists, writers, humanitarians.

In strongest statement yet amid ongoing ICE raids, and on heels of Pope Leo’s remarks about welcoming migrants, Card Cupich tells Chicago’s undocumented immigrants: “You have contributed to this nation. You have earned our respect… We stand with you.”
There's always been a fight over the true story of America. I believe deeply in the story that says we’re all created equal, and that if we can treat each other with decency and respect, all of us will be better off.
