Prior to a massive run down, the Coal Industry in 1960 had Nine British universities with Mining Departments. Almost fifty towns had ‘Mining Technical Colleges’ eg Falkirk, Hebburn, Barnsley, Wigan, Chesterfield, Nuneaton, Swansea, Canterbury

They’re dedicated to the stories of miners who contributed so much in wartime, including the remarkable ‘Tunnellers’ of the First World War.
