First impressions are everything. No stabbing his brother in the back or years of baggage. Voters like Starmer and will like, in time, the team he's chosen.
@oldandrewuk@CoopieBastards @OliverRMills Well, to be frank, you argue these questions in a very "I've never heard of this, so it can't true" kind of way. Your combination of gifs, football related snark and simple rejection of very basic points about the history of racism, led me to go back to the basics.
@PaddyBriggs I'll agree with Julia that the skinheads don't represent 66 million people.
But whether they represent 17.4 million people is a far more fraught and worrying question.
Closely tied to people's inability to discern history from national fantasy; films contemporary with the war, made for the purpose of propagandising, have come to be seen as near documentary-like through subsequent decades of TV repeats.
Results surely weighted by the US, UK and Brazil having the misfortune of being led by particularly inept male specimens, but still good work by the women leaders involved.
Did women leaders handle Covid-19 better than male leaders? I crunched data & found that the death rate in female-led nations was 1/5 that of male-led nations. If the US had the death rate of female-led countries, the US would have saved 102,000 lives.

From what I could see @pritipatel it was not a “minority” causing trouble today. It was the massed ranks of Right Wing thuggery everywhere. Why would they feel empowered to do that do you think ?
@oldandrewuk@CoopieBastards @OliverRMills A vast amount of scholarship has been done on the connections between racism, empire and trade. Retreating into absurdism to try to pretend otherwise won't change the reality of anything I've said.
@oldandrewuk@CoopieBastards @OliverRMills So yes, "Really."
The rise of modern racism (notions of racial hierarchies, notions of blood purity, the appropriation and subversion of evolutionary science) is intimately linked to the rise of capitalism and the justification of empire in the 18th and 19th centuries.
@oldandrewuk@CoopieBastards @OliverRMills ...The need to see other people as inherently inferior (as opposed to wrong in their belief) can be directly traced to the need to justify slavery and empire building. They had to be "othered" to justify these activities, the white man being on top had to be made to seem natural.
@CoopieBastards @OliverRMills @oldandrewuk There are no informed experts of the period who would debate that point.
You may want to, but it remains the case.
