Benar atau salah? Saya rasa banyak orang yang memanggil Bahasa Melayu 'Bahasa' ...
Namun begitu, tweet asal @waltonkate itu merujuk kepada sumber PBB yang memakai istilah 'Bahasa', dan saya bersetuju dengan beliau bahawa penggunaan ini boleh menimbulkan kekeliruan.
@waltonkate@AjaanMark@sjneow Kate, Bahasa generally means Bahasa Indonesia. Nobody in Malaysia refers to Bahasa Melayu as Bahasa; it’s normally called Malay.

Good question! Have read of Khmer having borrowed a few words from Malay before. It's possible. I'll do some research on the history of contact between Khmer and Bahasa and see what I can find. (This is definitely something I'd do faster if I didn't have so many deadlines!)
I've been thinking a lot about the word "ketam" for crab, or ក្តាម in Khmer ('ktam'). A lot of Malay words come from Sanskrit, Arabic ... what's the history of Khmer and Bahasa? @HistoryofMalay
Hai! I still check Twitter about once a week on this account, just to see what people are saying about the news, but my personal social media accounts are on hiatus 😊 Thanks for checking up on me!

@Morphosyntax I figured, but it's a good opportunity to engage in a discussion other people can read! I wasn't gonna get annoyed haha - it's not about him, it's about everyone else who's paying attention.
@Uthman_Zaik @justraspaul Minta maaf. Saya ada masalah domain yang sukar diperbaiki, website tak boleh dibuka apabila taip "https://t.co/o48Jm5BL3j". Tolong tunggu sebentar 😕
@danieleskay@HistoryofMalay@Aiminer357 Exactly. 'Untranslatable' doesn't mean 'there is no actual word to put it in English' or 'English speakers couldn't say it' - it means 'the concept or the nuance behind the untranslatable word or phrase is foreign or not easily explainable in the target language'.
@HistoryofMalay@Aiminer357 Ditto. There are English words that could replace Malay terms, easy to find them if your vocab is good, but it just structurally replaces them while leaving behind the essence of the original language. For example, gotong-royong isn't just group cleaning as what op suggested.
@aksarasabda@danieleskay@Aiminer357 I do think there was a bit of a misunderstanding there. Perhaps they thought "translation" just meant being able to describe it in English - when it is not the same thing.
