The Musina Repatriation Centre is officially a ghost town. Down from a 20,000-capacity logistical circus to just 1 or 2 lonely buses a day idling in the Limpopo sun. It turns out that when you actually enforce a border, the endless human conveyor belt dries up. Shocker.

Home Affairs processed over 68,000 deportations this past month, and suddenly the facility is empty. It’s a stunning victory that begs the ultimate question: Did it really take decades for someone in Pretoria to realize that border security isn't rocket science?

The undocumented masses didn’t magically vanish from the face of the earth. They just realized that treating a sovereign border like a walk-through turnstile gets slightly less convenient when there is actual law enforcement standing on the other side.

Let’s not give out gold medals just yet. Keeping a temporary processing camp empty is the easy part. The real test is keeping the actual border fences from being dismantled and recycled into cattle kraals the moment the cameras stop rolling.

While Ministers reassure us that "scaling down" won’t compromise national security, South Africans are left watching a ghost town wonder: Is this sustainable border management, or just a temporary pause before the next bureaucratic nap?
