Never has UK government spent (or taxed) more. Yet
- Newly-released prisoners sleep rough
- Special-needs school provision is tanking
- Defence is decaying
Austerity is back - driven by out-of-control spending (welfare, HS2, SEND etc)

Adam Boulton talking mean-spiritedly about Ann Widdecombe in front of what looks like a picture of himself. He describes her – a possible murder victim – as a 'spinster', a 'battleaxe', 'a bruiser', an 'old maid', and mentions her virginity, before speculating irresponsibly about her death. Horrible, horrible stuff
📣🚨 METROPOLITAN POLICE OFFER UNRESERVED APOLOGY TO GRAHAM LINEHAN AND PAY HIM £25,000
The Metropolitan Police have at long last offered an unreserved apology to Graham Linehan and paid him £25,000.
Last September, the Irish comedian and co-creator of Father Ted was arrested by five armed police officers as he landed at Heathrow Airport.
His crime? Three gender-critical posts on X.
He was arrested, taken to a police station and questioned for several hours. In the early hours of the following morning, he was rushed to hospital after his blood pressure rose to dangerously high levels.
The Free Speech Union is proud to have supported Graham in taking legal action against the Metropolitan Police for wrongful arrest and breaches of his free speech rights.
General Secretary of the Free Speech Union, Lord Young, has said: “I’m beginning to lose count of the number of cases we’ve fought in which the police have arrested someone for a tweet, decided to take no further action and then had to pay them substantial compensation for wrongful arrest.
“At some point you’d think the penny would drop: police our streets, not our tweets.”
While we welcome the Metropolitan Police’s apology and compensation payout to @Glinner, this should never have happened in the first place.
It is high time the police focused on our streets, not our tweets.

@DanNeidle It’s quite an achievement to get the Guardian and Telegraph to agree Gary Stevenson proves he’s a self-styled economist who’s out of his depth https://t.co/lU3A9rex7T
Gary Stevenson clearly cares deeply about inequality, and passionately wants a wealth tax. But he is uninterested in the detail of either the problem or his solution.
He exaggerates his expertise, and his research is sloppy.
Given the size of his audience, that's a shame.
There is growing speculation about the enforcement of Labour's social media ban for Under-16s involving restrictions or bans on VPNs.
Make no mistake, if this is introduced, it will mean an end to online privacy, and the state will know exactly who is looking at what at all times if they so choose.
The only other states with restrictions on VPNs are China, Russia, Iran, Oman, the UAE, Turkey and India.
This is a dark direction of policy even for the Labour Party.

The people who decided Peter Mandelson should be trusted to be our ambassador to the USA think they should decide what news sources are to be trusted.
That's what boffins call 'taking the fucking piss'.
Possibly, as Minister for Health, James Murray could compel the adult gender clinics to hand over the data they refused to give to Cass. We might then find out just how much benefit these interventions confer long term, without needing to perform experiments on children too young to give meaningful consent.
Read the testimony of the ever-expanding numbers of detransitioners. Grasp that these young people, many of them extremely vulnerable - autistic, care-experienced, abuse survivors, same-sex attracted in unsupportive families - have been irreparably harmed, left with their fertility destroyed, unending medical complications and profound psychological damage.
This is a medical scandal of epic proportions and people of power and influence are still too frightened of trans activists and trans lobby groups to do the right thing and put an end to the insanity. Kids are being sacrificed to ideology and cowardice.
Lisa Nandy will be spending the next stage of her career launching a campaign against 'disinformation' so we can't talk about or share this video. https://t.co/fkgKzLuEaw
Excuse the non-academic language, but this is crackers.
In a rational world, these people would be seen as fringe cranks & kept far from power. But this is being pushed by senior civil servants & supported by a majority of MPs.
We are being let down by our political class.
