We're moving! Same content new place. Follow our main account @baseballhall for highlights from our digital collections including what we posted today for the #ArchivesHashtagParty
Thank you everyone who participated in #AskAnArchivist day. We really enjoyed responding to your questions about our collections. Signing off til next year.
@mjcarroll531 @baseballhall We would recommend doing an internship or volunteering at a local archives to get a good sense of whether it's a career that you enjoy. And yes, a masters to have the theory to support the passion is key.
@CLTfoodfight@baseballhall We thought of one! The manufacturing equipment often gives us pause like this Baseball-Making table. https://t.co/xmwdyWWeDT. It can be difficult to care for and just a bit strange to look at.
@matthewsoberman If the food item is not vital to the collection, we remove it (see this video https://t.co/N20fo5XEZP of our registrar). Otherwise, we isolate the item(s) from the rest of the collection.
@JoellaDTravis@baseballhall Scrapbooks are always a particular challenge because of the variety of materials that can be in them. There can be anything from pressed flowers to napkins to plastic mementos. They all have different preservation needs.
@AndrewAronstein We store them flat. We have backers in a variety of sizes. It really depends on the condition of the print as to the size we will choose.
The prints in our collection for photographers like Conlon and Thompson are kept in a climate controlled space. They are stored in acid free boxes/folders and individually enclosed in an acid-free enclosure and supported by an acid-free backer.
@JuliaGSpencer There are so many untold stories of local and industrial league teams. Here an example of one couple who found love on the field: https://t.co/j51T5hfJXv
To care for baseball gloves-store them in acid-free boxes cushioned in acid free paper. Don't oil them and be sure to pad out the inside. #AskAnArchivist
The oldest one we have in our Digital Collections right now is a ball from the first game to charge admission in 1858. See more information about this ball at https://t.co/hntmVxBLcb
