Two wallets can both say multi-signature and mean completely different things by it.

One kind puts the rule on the chain. The network won't accept the spend unless enough keys signed, and that rule holds whether or not the vendor still exists in five years.

Citadel, in XColdPro, does it in software and fully offline. Cryptographic M-of-N approval, enforced by signature verification. Every approval is a real secp256k1 signature over a digest of the exact transaction, made with a per-device key. Finalizing verifies each signature rather than counting them, so changing the recipient, the amount or the threshold invalidates every approval already collected. Cosigners can be enrolled so that only named devices are able to approve.

The trade is worth stating plainly. Because the enforcement lives in the software, it works offline on all 22 networks, including chains that have no native multisig at all. The chain sees an ordinary transaction. It also means the approval rule is ours rather than the network's, and anybody weighing the two should know that going in.

Both are cryptographic. They differ in what does the enforcing.
