SD Mines played spoiler on Saturday as they beat Mesa 17-14, giving the Mavericks their 3rd loss of the season and making it very likely that they will be at home watching the playoffs.

On a cold and rainy day in Rapid City, the Hardrockers relied heavily on the run game, defense, and special teams.

More specifically, SD Mines ran the ball 41 times for 219 yards (5.3 avg) and 2 TDs.

On defense, SD Mines held Mesa to 130 rushing yards on 39 carries (3.3 avg) and intercepted 2 Mavericks’ passes.

On special teams, Connor Taylor made a 49 yards field goal. Taylor also punted 7 times, pinning 4 of them inside the 20, including 1 at the 9 yard line and another at the 3 yard line. For good measure, he also ran for 32 yards on a fake punt, picking up the 1st down.

Along with Connor Taylor, leading SD Mines to the win were:
🏈 Holden Gilbert, 16 carries for 120 yards & 2 TDs;
🏈 Hunter Newsome, 11 Tackles (3 Solo & 8 Ast);
🏈 Wren Jacobs, 11 Tackles (2 Solo & 9 Ast);
🏈 William Lester, 7 Tackles (1 Solo & 6 Ast), including 1/2 TFL, & 1 INT; &
🏈 Taylor Hojer, 7 Ast Tackles.

SD Mines’ season concludes next Saturday in Alamosa, where they take on the Adams St Grizzlies.
