This Week’s X-Rock Athletes of the Week are Clare Fischer and Jake Martinelli from @HardrockerTFXC and @HardrockerFB

Clare finished sixth in the Gage McSpadden Memorial.

Jake completed 39 passes for 443 yards and 5 touchdowns, adding 62 rushing yards.

While SD Mines dropped a 52-50 heartbreaker in a 4 OT shootout against Michigan Tech, Mines’ Redshirt Senior QB Jake Martinelli absolutely balled out!

Martinelli completed 39 of 61 passes for 443 yards and 5 TDs and gained another 62 yards on the ground. While Martinelli threw 1 INT, I’ve watched it over and over, and quite simply, the officials got the call wrong.

Mines’ Redshirt Junior WR Mason Galbreath was a major contributor to Martinelli’s tremendous game as he pulled in 10 catches for 160 yards and 1 TD.

Mines’ Junior WR Colton Grover contributed another 40 receiving yards on 3 catches, 2 of which were for TDs.

The defense was led by Senior LB Hunter Newsom, who recorded 7 tackles (5 Solo & 2 Ast), with 3 tackles for a loss.

Despite the loss, SD Mines’ offense was impressive! The defense, for a second straight week played great in the 1st half as they held Michigan Tech to just 7 points going into halftime.

With the consistence that will come from game time experience and repetition, this team is going to win a lot of games this Fall!
