@MikeWingerii Watching a friend deconstruct, not knowing how to help or answer her questions, and going on a search for the historical/intellectual roots of my very experience-driven faith. Discovering the Reformed tradition through a wonderful man named Jerram Barrs. That was just the start!
@LondonHatch When I was in her shoes abt 15 years ago, When Life and Beliefs Collide by Carolyn Custis James was the first book God used to soften my heart toward theology & grappling with God’s sovereignty. Goheen was next!
@jasonkovacs How does the church differentiate between a sheep and a wolf? Is this church a place of safety for the sheep, or the wolves? What does this look like practically?
I first heard Tim Keller preach at the Cru 2009 staff conference. I’m pretty sure many Cru staff got saved that night. 😂 Including me. First time I ever grasped justification by faith alone. Forever grateful for Tim and his prophetic ministry to my heart and the world.
@JollyStine Exciting! Do a deep dive into Exodus 34:6-7. Then use it as a framework for the rest of the OT.
Or, teach the covenants and how they are ultimately fulfilled in Christ.
@john_starke Cojourners, a resource from Cru, is extremely helpful. Short, easily transferrable, and esp good for starting convos & continuing them.
Hardly a day goes by these days when I am not extremely grateful for my education at Covenant Theological Seminary. Words cannot express how grateful. Seems silly to even try. Thank you, God.
To follow Jesus is to enter into the fellowship of His sufferings. It means that, like Him, we will get down in the filth of life in this world.
The more we follow Jesus into the dual mysteries of iniquity and suffering, the more of His beauty we will see.
Perfectly said for today, our first membership meeting for Grace + Peace Church. Authentic community is one of our 5 values. We had a room full of mostly 20-30 y/o's ready to take membership vows b/c they have been experiencing authentic community for 6 months now. A work of God!
It turns out that something everyone is talking about—authentic community—is bound up in something people rarely ever talk about: church membership.

So @SayersMark has this idea that people are isolated and crave connection, but they so idolize personal freedom that they won't sacrifice it in order to build actually community. I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS.
I'm not interested in deconstructing someone deconstructing their faith, but I think it's helpful to think in the simplest terms Scripture gives us about what is and is not faith in God. /1
You can’t be fully present w/ your phone & fully present w/ your family at the same time. Now that my sons can use the very phone that was stealing my attention- im watching it steal theirs. When I complain they’re using it too much, I realize - I taught them how to do it.
Exactly 6 years to the day after @v7pc launched @WestsidePCA, we are launching Grace and Peace Church in downtown Colorado Springs with @vincehoppe & @HollyHoppe. For more info, check out https://t.co/UXButZokQF
“Being with someone is difficult because it asks of us that we share in the other’s vulnerability, enter with him or her into the experience of weakness and powerlessness, become part of uncertainty, and give up control and self-determination" -Nouwen https://t.co/2JrzW0nNmd
