We’re looking for new guests on our podcast!! Any home educators, educators, resource bods want to come on the show?
We’ve had a stellar line up of guests in the last 9 months. Want to join them?
Our most recent podcast with @naomicfisher is out and it’s all about supporting your anxious child. We have a fascinating discussion about how anxiety is built into the school system and what we can do to help our children with post school / post lockdown anxiety. #homeeducation
Do you have an anxious child aged under-8? Then this next webinar is just for you. Understand your child better and get some ideas as to how to help. Yes it's recorded. https://t.co/FeyMQwmpbw
Do you have a child with a complex health condition who you think needs an EHCP? My sister, Dr Abigail Fisher (educational psychologist) is running a webinar tomorrow. Come and ask your questions. Please share if you know parents who might benefit. https://t.co/KQU4el8BT2
No apologies for my total fangirling when we welcomed @naomicfisher to our podcast to discuss screen use @unschooling. It was great to really delve down into that fine balance between protection and autonomy when it comes to our children’s screen use: https://t.co/642RwDITc1
This constant focus on achievement at all costs is damaging our children and ultimately our society. No child should be made to feel a failure, let alone one in kindergarten.
The UK exam system is completely broken. I’ve no idea who it works for, but it sure as hell isn’t home educated children! In our new podcast, we teach you to hack the exams system. Because playing by the rules just isn’t #homeeducation https://t.co/642RwDIlmt
This is so awful. If this resonates with anyone, remember there is another way. One that values your child’s wishes and preferences, and allows them to get whatever qualifications they want without the stress and pressure of the school system. #homeeducation#homeschooling
Attendance sees a tick in the box but..
It doesn’t see the before or after school.
It doesn’t see the distress.
It doesn’t see the impact.
It doesn’t see how hard everyone tried.
It doesn’t ever say maybe this isn’t okay.
When did education become yet another arena in which we fight against our children? Making it a nasty power struggle of ‘musts’ and ‘shoulds’. Learning isn’t about an adult’s power over a child; it’s about their natural curiosity and exploration of the world. #homeeducation
@Unschooling1 I love this. I aways try to say yes and, if I can’t right then, I make sure I book in a definite yes for when I can do it. Children need to be affirmed. There are so many ‘no’s handed out as a matter of unthinking course to our teens. Let’s be the ‘yes’ people!
Unschooling allows you to unlock your child’s natural love of learning whilst respecting their autonomous choices. It’s the hidden weapon of home education! Check out our great podcast on unschooling with Heidi Steel: https://t.co/TBFID2J3Xl #unschooling#homeeducation
Just two days to go before my webinar on helping your child recover from trauma and loss. Understand how trauma affects the brain, how it might be affecting you and your child, and what you can do to help. Yes it's recorded. https://t.co/QyzUcvhCzC
@mossgatherer_ Children who experience trauma, including in the school setting, don’t become resilient adults, they become traumatised adults. It’s really very simple. The resilience myth is what we tell ourselves to justify our children continuing to attend a broken school system.
@daveclarkefive@naomicfisher Societally, children are constantly pressured and cajoled to be ‘nice’ to adults. Yet some adults seem to feel that being nice to a child is a looming disaster. What they really mean by parents being too nice is respecting their children’s right to have an opinion on their life.
@75ThunderRoad This is so hard for you and your daughter. Sometimes our children tell us clearly what they want and what they don’t want. And it’s hard to hear sometimes as a parent. Hopefully you find a route that will work for both of you.
