🇸🇴 Nunca vi algo así. En Somalia hoy se llenó un estadio para recibir como héroe nacional a Omar Artan, el árbitro al que Estados Unidos le negó la entrada al Mundial. Increíble.
If colonialism is the main reason for poverty, how do you explain Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam? And if avoiding colonization guarantees prosperity, why isn’t Ethiopia one of Africa’s richest countries?
Ethiopia was never colonized.
For much of its history, it was one of the poorest countries on the continent.
Meanwhile, Vietnam was colonized by the French, devastated by decades of war, and is now on its way to serious economic prosperity.
If colonialism were the answer to why Africa is poor, Ethiopia should be rich and Vietnam should be broke. Neither is true.
Can we please retire this excuse?
The debate is not whether colonialism alone caused Africa's poverty or whether avoiding colonization automatically leads to prosperity
If colonialism were the only reason for poverty how did countries like Singapore Malaysia and Vietnam recover from colonial rule and devastating wars to become strong economies?
On the other hand if never being colonized were the key to success why hasn't Ethiopia which was never fully colonized consistently been among Africa's wealthiest nations?
The reality is that a nation's development is built on Good leadership Strong laws and institutions
Quality education Security and stability
Investment and productivity
Japan was devastated during World War II, yet today it is one of the world's leading economic powers
South Korea was poorer than many African countries in the 1960s, yet today it stands among the most developed nations on earth
Botswana gained independence as one of Africa's poorest countries, yet it became one of the continent's greatest success stories through stable governance and sound economic policies.
History matters, but the future is determined by what we do today Every nation faces challenges but progress is driven by vision hard work, strong institutions, and honest leadership
This evening, I set out the facts that led to the lengthy targeted siege and show of force by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, intended to suppress opposition to the expiry of his mandate and his continued refusal to abide by the law and engage stakeholders in meaningful dialogue.
These actions will not deter us. Constitutional rights cannot be suspended through intimidation, and peaceful political participation cannot be silenced by force.
Ex NISA chief discloses what wasn’t intended for public. Is it divine act or outright stupidity on his part in admitting that in 2022 his electoral delegate illegally elected six other seats. He admits corruption is at the core of indirect model, yet he continues to advocate for it
@francescaDM_EU@HassanSMohamud@eu_echo@francescaDM_EU Foreign support and political meetings cannot change the reality on the ground. Many people believe that @HassanSMohamud political time has reached a difficult stage, and that Somalia now needs a new direction and an inclusive political agreement. 🇸🇴
The issue of Somaliland is clearly defined within the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia and it remains an internal matter grounded in Somali-led dialogue and mutual understanding While perspectives from international partners may be acknowledged the final decision rests entirely with the will and consensus of the Somali people The unity and territorial integrity of Somalia are fundamental pillars of statehood, to be upheld through respect, consultation and a nationally driven solution Ultimately, Somalia is a sovereign nation and its future direction is determined by its people
National assets are public property, and their protection depends on adherence to the constitution and the rule of law. Any decision concerning the management or sale of state property must follow a clear legal process, grounded in transparency, accountability, and constitutional principles
There can be no sustainable governance without respect for the legal framework that governs public resources It is therefore essential that such matters are handled with full transparency to preserve public trust and uphold the integrity of state institutions
The constitution is the foundation of statehood, and its protection is a non negotiable obligation
Having exhausted by selling in country public properties, the president has set his sights on selling Somali Embassies abroad, Tanzania, France & Germany 👇🏿. Never have we as Somalis seen this level of greed and corruption.
The relationship between Somalia and Türkiye is grounded in national interest and strategic cooperation Somalia is a sovereign state, and its decisions are determined by its people International partnerships are based on lawful agreements and the will of the Somali people therefore portraying such relations as driven by fear or power competition is misleading. Ultimately any partnership that serves the country’s interest will be maintained and the final decision rests with the Somali people not political narratives
Mr. President @HassanSMohamud principles are not selective what was wrong yesterday cannot become right today Suppressing and jailing voices of dissent is not governance it is a clear violation of the fundamental right to freedom of expression Leadership stands on principles and justice, not on temporary power When the voice of the people is silenced public trust erodes Time moves forward, but justice does not change
Dear Mr. President, @HassanSMohamud
In 2022, (see your tweet below), you condemned the death threats against me by your predecessor’s team and warned against shrinking political space, fear, and repression.
You called it unacceptable.
Today, you are doing the very same thing.
If it was WRONG then, it is WRONG now.
Jailing and STARVING a young MOTHER for opposing your regime is the lowest of the low - a shameful abuse of power.
Sad to see your tenure has been defined by abandoning everything you once claimed to stand for.
I pray you find your conscience. Again, if it ever existed.

Yes. Islam is a religion of peace. The word Islam itself comes from the root word Salam which means peace. Its teachings emphasize mercy, justice, compassion and respect for human life. The Qur’an teaches that saving one life is like saving all of humanity. Like any religion the actions of a few extremists do not represent the beliefs of over a billion Muslims who practice their faith peacefully every day
@bakhita_esther Respectfully blaming an entire religion or many countries for extremism is not fair Billions of Muslims around the world live peacefully and contribute positively to society Real peace comes from understanding justice and dialogue not from generalizing or spreading hate
