Dismantling public accountability and transparency in the spirit of school choice...🤦🏼♀️
...at a time when students, parents, communities and Indiana should have honest and clear information regarding tax dollar investments. 🤷🏼♀️
If state education rules continue to be subject to waivers, there might be an issue with the actual rules or the antiquated rulemaking process, or waivers are simply a mechanism for questionable, selective application. 🤷🏼♀️
@suptdrmccormick Thank you for using your position, the very last state superintendent of Indiana, to champion public education. Your voice is invaluable.
At a time IN leaders are stating the need to find solutions to teacher compensation issues, the 2020 session may end w/ more disappointment for trad. public schs.
Proposed legislation further takes funds away from trad. public schs & doesn’t address virtual charter waste.🤦🏼♀️
Thank you @INSenDems@inhsedems for introducing bills and amendments addressing teacher pay- NOW.
Although your efforts continue to be defeated in votes, your actions are noticed and appreciated. Thank you.
Action vs Promises 🔴
Kids. Kids. Kids.
Of 900 bills filed in this short session,160+ bills have K-12 impact.
What happened to the K-12 deregulation rhetoric?
Many filed bills are overreach. The few necessary bills correct past, poorly thought out legislation.
Stop piling on regulations.
Learn from the past.
For educators, there are moments our experience is dismissed, disregarded & disrespected by those who have never taught.
As a mom, teacher, principal, asst supt, supt and state supt, I fully understand the power of great educators. Experience should be celebrated not belittled.
Bills addressing teacher compensation continue to get voted down.
Message is loud and clear.
Are you?
What 3 policymakers have YOU contacted?
NEEDED: Voice of concerned moms, dads, grandparents, educators, future parents, business, ed. partners, neighbors, retirees, ...
If IN policymakers are committed to state $$$ support for 3 education systems in 1 space, a commitment to adequate & equitable funding is necessary.
If not, IN will continue to lose great educators in all systems.
If not, IN K-12 focus is misguided.
If not, all KIDS suffer.🔴
“The rest of us are supposed to naively believe that this dismantling of public education through lies and deception wasn’t the plan all along.”
This spot-on article could represent the voice of 95% of IN superintendents.
Thanks @WayneTwpSuper for continuing to champion.
WATCH: State Sen. J.D. Ford and former Roncalli HS counselor Shelly Fitzgerald are among those announcing a new bill to prohibit discrimination in schools that receive tax funding. https://t.co/qMEJobNs9h
Just filed Senate Bill 250 which would prevent discrimination in any school that receives tax $$. No Hoosier should have their own tax dollars used against them in a discriminatory way! https://t.co/rJY3Lu4TRf
Efforts to keep state funding out of schools that discriminate against staff and students are back at the Statehouse for the 2020 legislative session. https://t.co/0umqgblEyV via @jeanjeanielindz
This is the bill that you all have been asking for. Senate Bill 45 would repeal the 15 hour externship requirement that was placed on Hoosier teachers needing to renew their license. #RedForEd
Thanks @SenatorJDFord for your leadership.
IN should model an unwavering respect, acceptance & care for ALL.
Over $150,000,000 of tax revenue was distributed last yr alone for the purpose of educating kids in private schs. Excluding LGBTQ kids & educators is not an option.
Come on, Indiana. We have got to love, respect, accept & take care of kids!
65 children died from abuse & neglect (IN’s latest reporting year). Sadly, 65 also died the year prior.
We must address the whole child. Birth through grade 12 is a commitment to a system of care.
