Interested in my job? Its available for a year while I'll be on secondment with the BC Government working on CleanBC. Its a great gig working with a great team leading the implementation of Vancouver's Climate Emergency Action Plan - https://t.co/oZIb6MJg4W
@BrendanDawe An air source heat pump which replaced our gas furnace a couple years ago. The heat pump has worked well for heating and the AC has been great to have
@bcshaffer They do use fuel oil in NS. But they also have enough scale on heat pumps that equipment & install costs are much lower than BC. On my list to better understand. Re EVs in BC: I'm sure higher gas prices are part of it, but better charging network & ZEV standard also important
@bcshaffer I was just in NS visiting family & it was striking how many fewer EVs I saw on the road relative to BC. On the plus side, heat pumps are very common in NS and made BC's uptake look pretty mediocre.
And finally this evening, our board passed a motion directing staff to extend the timeframe for the Stanley Park temporary bike lane on Park Drive until the Stanley Park Mobility Study is complete and staff report back with long-term recommendations.
@McCueChris Yes - I recall seeing it. From my perspective there are compelling reasons for Vancouver to accelerate our transition off fossil fuels and better prepare for climate change. The progress we've made to date should give us optimism we can go faster - not justify slowing down.
This article points to incentives as the reason why more EVs are sold in BC & Quebec. A more important reason in my opinion is BC & Quebec have laws that require vehicle manufacturers to sell an increasing % of EVs. Ontario could follow suit w/o incentives https://t.co/RVvLx5Q639
@PaulCPCheng @MontePaulsen@CAHiggins That was our experience when we switched our gas furnace for a heat pump a couple years ago. After the rebates, the heat pump was less expensive than the gas furnace. And the air conditioning has been so nice to have during hot spells and wildfire smoke.

Cool update on the rapid growth in electric bike sales since the start of the pandemic: "Motorized bicycles are outselling all-electric cars and have the potential to transform urban transit." Starring Vancouver's own @MontePaulsen! https://t.co/HZVBUWy8Te
Good article from @don_pittis on the some of the progress being made (and challenges encountered) in efforts to transition off of fossil fuels (notably natural gas) in buildings. Heat pumps will be a key part of that transition. https://t.co/0o4LTNVDtx
