@DanielGlejzner It's almost like...and stay with me here...you need the foundational skills in order to be good at using and evaluating output of the magic tools 🤯
@FromTheDepths88 The weaponized incapability of distinguishing between this and the prop characters of today's cinema is a signal of the deterioration of people's critical thinking skills. Holy shit you're a dumbass.
Our love of science and data is generally worthy; I’m no Luddite. But in corrupt bureaucratic systems, from politics to sports, more rules and more technology often only provide more opportunities for corrupt manipulation.
A word about the so-called snicko graph that “proved” croatia striker matanovic touched the ball.
Darren Cann (referee decisions commentator on the BBC and, unfortunately for him, one of the least convincing men ever to see a microphone) said he was “100% certain” there was a touch that caused pasalic to be offside.
He based that certainty on “snicko” technology as this proved the touch.
This is what referee and VAR used to rule out the goal.
But even if you think snicko is a good idea (I don’t) there’s a massive problem with the snicko graph.
IT’S DOESN’T LINE UP WITH THE PICTURES!
Snicko shows one spike and we’re asked to believe that was the matanovic touch.
But there are 4 or 5 touches on the ball in a few seconds (the cross - matanovic? - portugal defender veiga - croatia’s pasalic - then gvardiol scoring).
Snicko shows one?
They have to show a graph where all five touches (if there are five) are represented and where the graph spikes line up perfectly with the footage.
That would remove all doubt.
The way it was presented makes no sense and looks corrupt to the core.
When we raised exactly these points of the need for integration of immigrants and shared Canadian values at Parliament, @JustinTrudeau implied we were racist.
But there was nothing ever racist about expecting newcomers to embrace the values that make this country worth coming to.
Refugees like my parents understood that. They didn't come here to recreate what they fled, they came to become Canadian.
Integration isn't exclusion. It's the promise we make to everyone who comes here: this is what we stand for, and you belong in it.
Calling that bigotry, as our then PM did, was how he lost the room — and the country.
It was an excuse to avoid the hard work of nation-building as a personification of his administration: broad values based pronouncements instead of actual leadership and results.
We can do better. We have to.
@ryanflorence I don't even like VAR, but this isn't even a valid point for the particular situation you're referring to. The call on the field was offside, so this would have been offside regardless...
