As 2024 winds down, I just want to say how blessed I have been. We opened the new Courthouse; I swore in two new Magistrates; and with the best court team in Tennessee, we served hundreds of kids & families. Happy New Year!
Today was the dedication of the new Sumner County Courthouse. Thanks to Chief Justice Kirby for her keynote address, and to all of the Judges, Clerks, Courthouse staff, County officials, and citizens who made it all happen.
It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Judge Barry Brown. He served the citizens of Sumner County as Juvenile Court Judge for over 30 years. He touched thousands of lives. I was blessed to have him as a friend and mentor.
It’s a tough day in Sumner County with the passing of Sheriff Sonny Weatherford. He was a great public servant and a true friend of our court system. He will be missed.
After six years, Magistrate Erin Begley has left the Sumner County Juvenile Court to accept a position with the State of Tennessee. I certainly hate losing her but celebrate the great things to come. Thank you, Erin, for being both friend and colleague.
Today marks my 24th anniversary in the practice of law…my 24th anniversary in my friendship, partnership and brotherhood with Mike Carter…and a Happy Heavenly Birthday to Mike, as well. I sure miss him.
Looks like there is some traction in raising the pay rate for attorneys willing to take court appointed cases. There is still more to do…but it’s a nice start.
Looks like no compensation increase to those attorneys who take appointments for indigent clients…and that includes Guardians ad litem in child abuse cases. But some of us are still fighting for it.
