At the Grand Canyon for a family trip, making use of the First Amendment activities area set aside by @GrandCanyonNPS to make an impassioned speech about how incredibly worthwhile, despite being freezing, it was to get up to see sunrise over the Canyon — full approval from the littlest Usman
Congratulations to all those who passed the Tennessee bar! TN’s traditional swearing-in ceremony before the TN Supreme Court is a truly wonderful experience for you & your loved ones! For those who did not pass this time, I know plenty of excellent lawyers who did not pass the first time https://t.co/hdjXdjXapi
Trying to explain to my wife, the remarkable @ProfLadyUsman, what the death of Optimus Prime meant to young boys of a certain era — having some challenges — any thoughts for helping to better explain the significance?
For 40 years, this movie didn't let anyone off easy. It still won't. The Transformers: The Movie returns to theaters starting tomorrow, followed by the theatrical debut of Optimus Prime: Awakening, an all-new animated short.
A proud moment in parenting — 2nd grade parents night — an about me info sheet prepared by my youngest — her favorite book: The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere; her favorite movie: Young Washington; and her favorite holiday: Evacuation Day
Went to @CoyoteACMEMovie with a multi-generational group over the weekend, ranging in age by more than 70 years, was enjoyed by the youngest to the oldest — nice to watch a movie together that managed to have both my youngest & my dad laughing

photo facial expression = When you are a big kid 2nd grader & your mom, the wonderful @ProfLadyUsman, has taken ENTIRELY too many pictures for your first day of the new school year but your dad is telling some fairly decent jokes trying to keep the peace
My terrific former @BelmontLaw colleagues are hiring for multiple faculty positions this year - seeking candidates in health, entertainment, criminal law, criminal procedure, contracts, business associations, and related areas - a great place to teach law & Nashville is a wonderful city -- more info at https://t.co/70HCXUHdWn
Had a belated birthday party for the littlest Usman — @ProfLadyUsman & I put together a goodie bag for the rising 2nd graders — did we go with a patriotic theme & include a pocket constitution with Declaration of Independence, of course we did
Historians Joseph J. Ellis & Ron Chernow, among others, have described George Washington as seemingly made of marble — even contemporaries could have such a sense, Abigail Adams in meeting him (and this was 1775) was so struck by his dignity with ease that she described him, quoting poetry, as a sort of temple — Young Washington (@washingtonmovie) is a gift of a movie, rendering a flesh & blood and very human Washington while showing the growth from failure of an extraordinary young man who would become the indispensable man of the American Revolution — a leader among leaders who held the country together through war and peace — like Washington himself the movie is not perfect but it is impressive and well worth watching
I always find inspiration in rereading the Declaration of Independence on the 4th - the Declaration is a remarkable act of bravery, a humanity advancing statement of self-government & liberty, a vision of America broad enough that it become a rallying cry for the generations that followed in advancing the American promise among all her people — Happy 250th to all Americans, may freedom forever reign, may we be the city on the hill
Very much looking forward to seeing Young Washington — planning on over the next few days watching some other 4th of July favorites — John Adams episode 2, The Patriot, 1776, Hamilton, and of course Independence Day — any other recommendations?
Thoroughly enjoyed discussing separation of powers with @NashSchoolOfLaw's Dean Koch, a giant of the TN judiciary, as part of celebrating America's 250 anniversary -- wonderful job hosting by Nick Morgan of @TNCourts -- the program can be found at https://t.co/88XWHA9lnl
Sorry to hear of the passing of American historian Gordon Wood — history provides such an important perspective, helping to avoid getting lost in the present — a country that knows its history knows what it has been & sees what it can be — Wood helped tell this amazing country’s story.
Congratulations to the Schramkowskis — @AlexSchramTN & Celeste — an absolutely beautiful wedding — @ProfLadyUsman & I loved the incorporation of your shared love of @starwars — may you have a lifetime of joy and happiness
