Mad as hell. Not going to take this anymore. Real-life 19K Army vet, entrepreneur & retired TV news guy playing role on X inspired by the movie Network. RT&❤≠E
@DakineJeb@DowJones@SpaceX I’m an accredited investor too. All that means is that I’ve accumulated a net worth of more than a million bucks beyond my primary home. It’s not an indicator of any particular expertise. That said, go buy or sell anything you like.
@DoctorJack16 I will be L O N G $SPCX. It’s a 10+year hold for me. It’s not like space-based data centers will be operational next week. Expect many missed deadlines and production targets along the way, but for progress to be sure and steady. Buy the dips!
@SilversteinAdam Great show. It does lose a little coherence toward the end, as many series do. But even the last season or two are better than most things out there. Very original concept.
@MeghanMcCain@60Minutes We'll take our chances with the pendulum swinging toward honest journalism for a little bit, and if it ever goes back to what we've experienced the past 30+ years, we're not going to be any worse off for having had a dose of unbiased coverage for a short time.
@MustangMan_TX I topped out at 202. Currently 162. I used the MyFitnessPal app (free version). If you’re honest about what you put in your body, even on the bad days, it will gradually reshape your approach to food.
@EricLDaugh@4CharlieK I know it’s a useless skill, but I can still recite the presidents of the United States in order, and a little bit about each one. Because history matters. It is appalling to be governed by people who don’t know the barest basics.
After getting out of the Army, I went to a TV newsroom at the age of 26 and offered to work for free. A competitor turned me away. I put in 60 unpaid hours a week until the entire staff was banging down the boss’s door, telling him to hire me. I ended up running that newsroom & others. Fortune favors the bold.
@bluewmist You have no idea how glorious life can be. It's all in getting a new perspective. That might mean giving up things that led you into trouble, or getting away from toxic relationships or environments. Keep moving forward. Get a fresh look at life from a new angle.
Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of conservatives in TV newsrooms today, and not all at Fox News. I was always outnumbered, but never alone. Plenty of decent liberals, too, who will report a story honestly if exposed to the facts.
The biggest problems are usually either the management, or the self-appointed culture czars who demonize wrongthink in every newsroom.
A major factor is that except in the very largest local newsrooms, national and international content all comes from the AP, the network, or a behind the scenes affiliation w CNN.
Compounding that problem: consultants. They spring from the same polluted waters, and tend to have strong alignment in their liberal thinking. Companies pay more for consulting than they do for individual managers, so they have outsize influence in local newsrooms. The dominant consulting firm (Code name: Maggot. If you know, you know) also does political consulting, and they only help one party. It's not Republicans.
There are not only good conservative journalists. There are good, honest companies. Good consultants too, for that matter. I worked for a great, fair company for 30+ years. Its owners also run a flagship newspaper that was one of the handful that endorsed Trump in 2016. And 2020 and 2024.
There are a couple larger companies I know of that take fairness very seriously. They're outnumbered, of course, but they exist.
My point today is to take heart. In the same way Trump introduced something unheard of and unimagined in our politics, CBS's new ownership is going to create a new business model in this industry. There are plenty of reinforcements who will be eager to join them, and then there will be copycats who will emulate their future success.
A brighter day is on the horizon. The road will be bumpy, and the journey will be long, but I can see it clearly from my recently retired perch.
@RomanPuglise I'm about 18 years into a 20-year term policy. Assuming I survive the final 2 years, and it expires with no payout, it was not wasted money. The ability to stick to a plan and sleep well at night knowing my family's future would not be derailed by bad luck was priceless.
@Daytobehappy He just did. The next podcast or MSNBC gig or whatever he ends up with will be a hobby that pays a tiny fraction of what he just stopped making.
