Not sure who needs to hear this, but Adrian Morejon is nothing more than an opener/2-inning MRP. He has no history of volume innings at any level, breaks down anytime they try to stretch him out. It isn’t realistic to expect him to start/give the team 100+ innings.

Im so proud of Grace for the job she did at her 12u tryout last night. Watching coaches who have never seen her before drift in her direction just to watch her warm up beforehand. That collective “whoa” she got when she threw her first drop ball. Kid killed it!

@sports_guru I hope that isn’t the case. The last 2-3 spots of the rotation are going to tax the hell out of the pen by the All Star break if they don’t make any additions. I don’t think they can rely on any of those guys for consistent innings

I don’t feel any better about the Padres starting rotation than I did in October. IMO, they have three SP and a bunch of MRP competing for 2-3 spots.

Martinez prob shouldn’t see the same lineup more than once in a game.
Lugo is a project.
Everyone else is fringe.
They need Cueto

Johnny Cueto might not be exciting or flashy, but he’s steady. Slot him in as SP4. He should make 25+ starts and give you 150ish innings. They need that stability in the back of the rotation if they plan on tinkering with Martinez and Lugo in the rotation. It’s vital.

Man, I hope ASU gives Trenton Bourguet every opportunity to win the QB job. He transformed the offense when he took over for Emory Jones. Breathed life into a dead unit and the guys rallied around him. I’d love the see what he can do in Dillingham’s system.

Can’t say I’m surprised by the revelation that Sean Manaea was “lazy” between starts. Stubborn probably also applies. How else do you explain a sinker baller who continues to throw his sinker above the belt in spite of it getting crushed over and over again? Knucklehead.

@Curran_CP @mickeykoke Signing Carp for $6m this year shouldn’t preclude them from signing Drury if they’re so inclined. Carp is strictly a platoon player now.

I like the Carpenter signing. Didn’t expect it but I like it provided he isn’t an everyday player. Would still like them to retain Drury.

Padres still don’t have a SP5. Martinez, Morejon and Lugo are all swing guys IMO. Not sure any of them can be counted on to start, we’ll see.

Arizona State is rumored as a destination for Clemson transfer QB DJ Uiagalelei.

A former five-star recruit, Uiagalelei posted 2,521 passing yards, 22 TD, and 7 INT this season. Rocket arm, good perimeter touch, big frame. Kenny Dillingham's work with Bo Nix should intrigue him.

@DevilsDigest Wow, you’re really missing the point. Herm and his guys cheated. People on staff spoke up internally about said cheating and were made outcasts. Workplace became hostile. They blew the whistle. There is so much wrong here, the whistle blowers are the least of the concerns.

Unpopular opinion: the Padres aren’t really contenders for every big name free agent. They’re just getting used to help those players get what they want from their preferred suitors. It’s been going on for two offseasons.

I’m going to be so disappointed with the padres offseason if it concludes with Wil Myers playing first base on a regular basis. It’s time to move on.

@BDenny29 I guess I’m in the minority but I believe they can win with Bourguet. I’m all for bringing in depth and competition but I think that kid has something. They need more weapons for him to throw to and the defense needs a ton of work.

@NickPapiGeorgio I hope he grows up really fast and starts making better decisions. That said, there is an entire 12-mo history of him acting like a spoiled brat and lying to the team than provides ample cause for concern. And I’m not saying they should trade him, just that they should listen.

Do I think the padres will trade Fernando Tatis? Probably not.

Is the timing right? Probably not.

Would they be foolish not to listen? Absolutely.

Fernando is immensely talented. He’s also shown himself to be selfish, immature and unreliable. He’s put them in a terrible spot.
