New paper alert! 🚨
In this study we explored how interactions between the locus coeruleus (LC), basolateral amygdala (BLA), and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC) affect freezing behavior and extinction learning.

These results reveal a circuit mechanism by which LC–NE biases activity of BLA→vmPFC to generate a heightened fear state. The better understanding of this circuit may help explain stress-related impairment of fear extinction in disorders such as PTSD.

Most neurotransmitter systems and intracellular elements are most important during and immediately after memory recall, while others are more involved at later time points, especially those supporting long-term persistence mechanisms triggered by memory recall.
We looked at evidence from all sorts of fear memory reconsolidation studies and tried to determine what is known about the temporal dynamics of different systems that contribute to memory reconsolidation and persistence after recall.
How are long-term memories stored in the amygdala? How are old memories integrated with new memories over time? We discuss this and more in a new review led by @JianfengLiu6 with @HugoBayer1 and @StephenMaren. https://t.co/7Mn1YJik3A
📣 New Cai Lab paper in @CellReports!
We show that a stressful experience can produce different types of memories! We also find that the basolateral amygdala (BLA) & ventral hippocampus (vHC) differentially contribute to these memories 🧠

🌟Review Alert! Excited to share our latest article, where we explore the effects of serotonergic #psychedelics and related substances (e.g., MDMA) on extinguishing and reconsolidating aversive memories, expressing fear/anxiety, and locomotion in rodents.
