Rather excited to have my blog published by @RewildingB! @kneppcastle is a hugely inspiring project, both for its value to British wildlife and for the optimism it has ignited. Can't wait to get cracking on my master's project!

"Earth’s species are undergoing what some experts have termed the sixth great extinction due to habitat loss, poaching, pollution and climate change."

"Herbivores in a landscape can trigger extraordinary natural processes" - @isabella_tree explains how #rewilding at @kneppcastle has brought back clouds of insects, "surround-sound" birdsong and rare bats and nightingales #NaturesRecovery#WilderFuture https://t.co/6PB5RKZjoM
Hugely significant stats just emerging from #soil studies @kneppcastle - #rewilding has doubled soil #carbon, organic carbon, soil organic matter & microbial biomass. If we want to leave our land in a better condition for future generations then rewilding is part of the solution.
Looking forward to what will surely be an intriguing debate tomorrow between @Nature_Based and @EllenRotheray on whether the reintroduction of the beaver into the UK should be encouraged...have they brought about potential environmental and ecological benefits or destruction

"Current funding resources for conservation are disproportionally low and fragmented compared to the needs." This can't be stressed enough! #biodiversity#environment#Wildlife https://t.co/Qeh8OiSt0t
@BexOSullivan and if it was heading towards the surrounding woods anyway would that have provided enough time for a dart to take effect... but perhaps i'm just being naive and the tranq dart would altered its behaviour to become aggressive... very sad nonetheless
"the vet did not believe a tranquiliser dart was a safe option due to the amount of time the drug takes to work."Only 3000-7000 estimated to be left in the wild..a dart would have taken 15-45 mins to take effect... surely that's enough time?Very sad indeed https://t.co/aAWBybHY8O
@BexOSullivan Yeah it couldn't have been an easy decision to make but I just feel that generally snow leopards try to avoid human interactions and there's not really any verified attacks on humans
Cool carcass research by @EE_Spencer at #ESAus18
Lots of scavengers attracted to carrion - birds, foxes, cats, feral pigs, invertebrates. Amount and type of scavengers differs between habit types e.g open vs closed.
A really interesting article and perspective by @prjepson on the Oostvaardersplassen controversy, which is still ongoing. is there an aspect where we have to become the predator and if so, would we need to decide what kind of hunter to be? https://t.co/s8cn3HkMJN #rewilding
