@EddieComeaux It’s great to finally see something that emphasizes what a student-athlete really goes through. Many people think of them as just athletes & don’t pay too much attention on all that they endure. Mental health is a big area of concern that is often neglected &not given enough focus
@fucar001@helloJuJudy I agree with you 100%. Being a student-athlete means we miss out on great opportunities like being a research partner and even prohibits one from getting a job due to scheduling conflicts. @helloJuJudy#UCR50
Being a student-athlete makes it difficult to network & do stuff that would look good in a resume. For example I cannot be involved in research studies because the majority of my time is being spent on athletics which would look good on grad school applications.@helloJuJudy#ucr50
@fucar001@helloJuJudy I completely agree with you Federico. It’s about time the NCAA stop exploiting students and properly share the wealth and compensate student-athletes. #UCR50@helloJuJudy
it’s extremely hypocritical of the NCAA to not compensate their athletes. The NCAA controls the life of a student and In return offer no compensation for the blood, sweat, tears, and time. TheNCAA exploits players and just sit back and collect their money. #UCR50@helloJuJudy
Being that80%of students have suffered from sexual assault is a clear&obvious sign that there’s a problem that has yet to be met with a solution.Institutions need to take charge immediately bc this is a problem that won’t go away with time,it needs a solution. #ucr50@helloJuJudy
@Robert54250942@helloJuJudy I agree with you Roberto. The more diverse the community within campus, the more we flourish. We learn about different cultrues, ideology, and beliefs which help us escape from the bubble that we grew up in. #UCR50
The 1st time I was going away for college, I was complete scared and out of my element.Fortunately, because of athletics I was able to meet great friends who were also making the transition. That made me feel like I wasn’t alone & ultimately helped me adapt to my new environment.
@ivanapivaral @helloJuJudy I completely agree with you.Juggling our time between school, games, practice, travel,&on top of that having to study and get hmwk done is extremely difficult and stressful. However we learn valuable time management skills that could give us an advantage in life.
#ucr50@helloJuJudy
Being a student athlete,I’m grateful for the time management skills we learn due to us having to juggle our free time between school, practice,& travel for games. because we learn to manage our time,it becomes a useful skill we can apply to everyday life. #ucr50@helloJuJudy
@ivanapivaral I agree with you and your viewpoint. Universities take advantage of players and the money they bring and the players hardly ever see a dime. Instead the university gives million dollar contracts to the coach’s on a long term deal as described in chapter 12. #ucr50@helloJuJudy
@kaylale021@helloJuJudy I 100% agree with you.Teachers work with a bigger number of students and have the same impact to the university as coaches. pay gap between teachers and coaches is far too great being that teachers put in the same amount of effort and work with more students. #ucr50@helloJuJudy
Ch.12’s debate concerning a coach’s salary is controversial.I understand that coaches bring in a great amount of money to a university, however the gap between coaches and teachers is a joke.Teachers work equally hard & with more students but remain underpaid.#ucr50@helloJuJudy
