A traditional leader was shot and disarmed by police after attacking a palace messenger with a cutlass during a tense standoff at the Agona Amenfi Chief’s Palace in Ghana’s Western Region.

The incident reportedly occurred during a community event to mark the construction of a new maternity ward. According to reports, trouble started when a palace messenger returned to the palace to retrieve a ceremonial tool and was allegedly attacked by the suspect.

Police officers were called to the scene and reportedly attempted to persuade the armed man to surrender. After several failed attempts to disarm him, officers shot him in the hand, allowing them to overpower and arrest him.

The dramatic incident caused panic among residents and has since sparked reactions online.
