BREAKING: The Houthis have now seized Perim Island, completing total control over the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, per a Yemeni local government official to AFP.

Perim sits inside the strait at its narrowest point and hosts an Emirati air base where Israel has been granted access to. It comes right after MBS called Trump twice urging US strikes on the Houthis as they closed in on the strait, and Trump refused

Just came across a clip from a school somewhere in Kashmir. Independence Day celebrations held for or by the Waqf Board.

I have a question. Isn’t waqf board a religious body entrusted with serving the Muslim Community. and ideally doing so while uplholding Islamic Values?

Then there is something almost comical about this institution: an organisation built around a religious and communal purpose, yet sitting so comfortably through something you would expect a religious institution to at least question.

It lends its name to celebrations that reduce our children to stage props and performers.

Why is the default way of involving children — and particularly girls — in public celebrations to make them dance to irrelevant songs? Why aren’t our institutions giving them something to think about, create, learn, discuss, build or contribute?

Especially in a place like Kashmir. Which has had a remarkable legacy of people who understood education as a means to enlighten minds, cultivate character and equip people with knowledge and spirituality.

What about the intellectual and cultural legacy of wonderful scholars of the past.

So if it’s an institution whose very existence is tied to religious purpose, you are taksed with deeper work of strengthening the communities spiritually morally, intellectually.

And to be clear: the point is not the children. Children are often simply made to participate in whatever schools and institutions put before them.

Perhaps that is the real tragedy here.

The question is what an institution chooses to facilitate, endorse and place under its own banner.

BREAKING: Iran has completely ruled out any future negotiations with the Trump administration, declaring it will wait out Donald Trump's term until January 20, 2029, per Iranian outlets and Ghalibaf advisor's post.

"Trump will not reach an agreement with us. We will accompany him until his term ends," said Majid Shakeri, advisor to Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf.

He posted: "The path to victory is neither fighting nor a deal — it is managing the process of neither war nor peace, up to the point of victory. Publicly confirming negotiations with the U.S. is sheer folly. The winning approach is denial, ambiguity, and strategic patience."

Iran's conditions remain unchanged: $300 billion in compensation, release of frozen assets, and withdrawal of U.S. forces. Until then, the Strait stays closed.

BREAKING: Iran declares the Strait of Hormuz will stay closed until 2029, the end of Trump's term, unless Trump accepts all of Iran's demands, per a senior Iranian source and Majid Shakeri, advisor to Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf.

Iran's demands in the US surrender document remain unchanged, $300 billion in compensation, the release of up to $100 billion in frozen assets, lifting all sanctions, US troop withdrawal from the entire region, an end to the naval blockade, and accepting transit fees on every ship.

We have received reports that protestors have been detained by the Assam Police and West Bengal Police. It is also being alleged that many of those detained are Muslims.

Today, I appeared for Ariful Islam, a lawyer who was merely a bystander near the site of a protest in Guwahati.

He was in his advocate's uniform, showed the police his Bar ID card, and was carrying copies of the BNS and BNSS - So much Suraksha for a Nagarik!

Yet he was detained for over 24 hours at a police station and booked under Section 152 of the BNS for allegedly "endangering the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India."

This comes even as the Government has agreed to withdraw cases against peaceful protesters across the country.

Ariful has now been remanded to judicial custody until 7 August.

The police can cross all limits of arbitrariness - violate every protection guaranteed under the Constitution - and we can hardly do anything!
