This is an excellent article from @rohan_mukh in @ForeignAffairs. Rohan describes India’s newfound mass nationalism in foreign policy and warns against the dangers of India expecting too much deference as a rising power using China (and the US) as a cautionary tale.
My essay in @ForeignAffairs on how growing public and elite nationalism in rising powers can produce self-defeating foreign policy risks. This was as true of the United States in the 19th century as it is of India today.

@Cola_Hash@WarInstitute@WestPoint_USMA Thanks, Nicole! I really appreciate your comment. I hope everything is going well in Boston. Can’t wait to read your work too!
I’m so excited to join the @WarInstitute from @WestPoint_USMA as a 2023-2024 Research Fellow.
It’s a great honor to be selected into the same cohort as the other esteemed selectees. Please read their bios below.
We're pleased to present this year’s cohort of MWI research fellows. These fellows are nonresident volunteers from a variety of backgrounds with deep expertise and experience in their fields, and they are leading the way in applied research for the Army. Let’s meet them:

🚨 Fully funded PhD opportunity: If you're interested in doing a PhD with me on either 1) security and resilience or 2) any application of AI to security - email me. Essex has a great community of scholars doing data-driven work on security/conflict issues. Deadline 10 June.
Gotta love SCO talking about regional security when:
- one member has done the opposite of eliminating terrorism & instead exported it
- one member (again) invaded its neighbor last year, claiming it didn't hv right to exist
- one member violated border agmts w another member
@rwpallas Thanks, Ryan. Glad we were able to add you as a marine to the summer strategy course. Hope the two programs can solidify that relationship. And I hope your PhD studies are going well. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything.
Yesterday was my last day at @us_sams and as I drove the 12.5 hrs from FLKS to NM, I had a lot of time to reflect on my 5 years there.
Even though my job was to teach, I can’t help but be struck by how much I learned and grew from the experience. 1/
@ArmyStrategist @us_sams Thanks, Rob. This brings me back. You were in my first class. I appreciate you and the whole seminar for welcoming me as you did. And maybe it’s as simple as me teaching strategic context and 59s always thinking strategically, but I’ve always enjoyed the 59s. A great FA.
While I often found it difficult to be an academic in a military-bureaucratic world—sometimes unbearably so—I walk away thankful for the opportunities to I had to teach, learn, and develop.
The mind is the key to victory!
I also learned an unbelievable amount from my many great interdisciplinary colleagues. Only a few of the core remain—two passed on, many left during traumatic times, and three were fired (under false pretenses)—but I’m confident the new leaders will rebuild SAMS to new heights.
