Researchers proved that your Android phone is sending data to Google every 4.5 minutes.

Even when you opt out of EVERYTHING.

Researchers at Trinity College Dublin did an exhaustive deep-dive into exactly how much data iOS and Android devices stealthily transmit back to Apple and Google.

Both tech giants are running non-stop telemetry pipelines from your device.

Even when you are not logged into an account. Even when you explicitly opt out of data collection. Even when the phone is completely untouched.
The sheer volume of data being harvested is staggering.

Android sends data back to Google every 4.5 minutes. iOS follows right behind, pinging Apple every 4.5 minutes.

Within the first 10 minutes of powering on a fresh device, Android sends roughly 1MB of data to Google. iOS sends about 42KB to Apple.

When the phones are just sitting there doing nothing, Google harvests around 1MB of data every 12 hours. Apple collects roughly 52KB.

Google is collecting 20x more telemetry data than Apple.

But what they are collecting is the real problem.

The researchers discovered that your phone isn’t just sending generic system diagnostics. It is sending a highly detailed digital fingerprint:

- Hardware serial numbers
- Device IMEI numbers
- Wi-Fi MAC addresses
- Your phone number
- SIM card details

And it gets darker.

iOS uploads the WiFi MAC addresses of every device near you. Your roommate's laptop, the café router, your neighbor's home gateway—all tagged with your exact GPS coordinates.

If just one person in your building enables location services once, Apple now knows where every single device on that network lives. Forever.

The researchers tried to opt out of everything. They turned off location services, restricted background data, and avoided signing into any accounts.

It didn't matter. The data transmission never stopped.

The escape hatch has been welded shut.

Right now, millions of professionals use these devices to handle sensitive business data, proprietary code, and private operations under the assumption that "idle" means "safe."

But the data shows there is no such thing as an offline smartphone anymore.

🚨 ALTMAN BOUGHT BROCKMAN'S LOYALTY IN 2017

In 2017, Sam Altman personally paid Greg Brockman with ~$10 million in equity off the books from his personal family office.

Brockman hid it from Musk.

Musk's family office head Jared Birchall discovered it and wrote to Musk on August 18, 2017:

JUST IN: Judge warns Elon Musk and Sam Altman OpenAI leadership to stop social media attacks during trial.

US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers told both sides to “control your propensity to use social media to make things worse outside this courtroom.”

The warning came one day after Elon Musk posted multiple jabs at OpenAI’s leadership on X ahead of Tuesday’s opening statements.

NEWS: Elon Musk’s Tesla ownership jumps to 16.8% as he exercises historic 2018 compensation package worth $7.1 billion.

Tesla registered 304 million shares tied to Musk’s 2018 CEO award after Delaware Supreme Court reinstated it in December 2025.

Elon Musk must exercise options at $23.34 strike price between May 21-August 15, costing ~$7.1B. Shares cliff vest January 19, 2028, with 5-year lock-up until 2033. Tax obligations will consume ~45% if paid in shares.

Despite this 4% ownership increase to 16.8%, reaching Musk’s stated 25% target remains challenging. Even the 2025 compensation plan (approved by 75% of shareholders) granting 424M pre-tax shares would only push ownership to 22.2%.

NEWS: Elon Musk testifies for 1 hour 40 minutes in OpenAI trial

Elon spent nearly two hours on the stand today. He will resume testimony tomorrow.

He argued the case has consequences far beyond him personally:

“It is not ok to steal a charity. If the defendants are found not guilty, this case will become caselaw. It’ll give license to looting every charity in America. The consequences of this case go far beyond me or everyone here. The entire foundation of charitable giving in America will be destroyed.”

Elon testified that OpenAI was founded as a nonprofit, open source counterweight to Google, focused on AI safety. He said the later shift toward a for profit structure violated that original mission.

He strongly positioned himself as central to OpenAI’s founding, saying he came up with the idea and name, recruited key people and provided early funding. He stated he would not have donated his time or money if it were not structured as a 501c3 nonprofit for humanity’s benefit.

He said he was not opposed to a small for profit entity supporting the nonprofit, as long as “the tail didn’t wag the dog.”

Elon described early concerns about AI risk, including conversations with Larry Page. He testified that Page did not take AI risk seriously at the time and that their relationship broke down after Elon recruited Ilya Sutskever, whom Elon called Google’s “number one” most valuable AI person. He said Page stopped speaking to him and at one point called him a “speciesist” for prioritizing humans over AI.

Elon also said he attempted to raise AI concerns with President Obama years ago, but was told AI was not yet advanced enough to seem dangerous. “Here we are in 2026, AI is very smart.”

He warned that AI could surpass human intelligence as soon as next year and referenced risks similar to a “Terminator outcome” if powerful systems are controlled by untrustworthy people. He testified: “If you have someone who’s not very trustworthy in charge of AI, that’s very dangerous for the whole world.”

Elon framed SpaceX, Neuralink and xAI as part of a broader mission to protect humanity’s long term future. He also referenced his background, early career and long working hours, saying he has consistently worked 80 to 100 hours per week.

His legal team is seeking approximately 150 billion dollars in damages, to be directed to the nonprofit arm, along with structural changes to OpenAI.

Opening arguments framed the case as “stealing a charity” on Musk’s side, while OpenAI’s side argued Musk is upset he did not gain the level of control he wanted and that he once pushed for majority control and closer Tesla ties.

The trial is expected to last around three weeks, with a potential verdict by mid May.

BREAKING: SpaceX ties Elon Musk’s compensation to Mars colonization goal

Reuters reports that SpaceX’s board has approved a compensation plan that links Musk’s pay to two major milestones: building a permanent Mars colony and operating space based data centers.

According to the company’s confidential registration statement reviewed by Reuters, Musk would receive 200 million super voting restricted shares if SpaceX reaches a $7.5 trillion valuation and establishes a permanent human colony on Mars with at least 1 million people.

A separate award of up to 60.4 million restricted shares, granted on March 23, is tied to additional valuation targets and the operation of space data centers capable of delivering at least 100 terawatts of compute capacity.

Both awards use super voting Class B stock, which carries 10 votes per share. The shares vest in tranches as valuation milestones are reached.

If the company does not meet the targets, Musk receives nothing under this package. He has drawn a nominal salary of $54,080 per year from SpaceX since 2019.

SpaceX is reportedly targeting an IPO around June 28 and has previously been valued near $1.75 trillion.

Corporate governance experts told Reuters the structure is highly unusual, noting that SpaceX and Tesla may now effectively be competing for Musk’s focus, as both companies have performance based compensation tied to ambitious long term goals.

NEWS: Judge Gonzalez Rogers splits Musk vs OpenAI trial into two phases

The judge decided before proceedings began that the case would move forward in two separate stages.

The first stage is the liability phase. In this part, the court will examine whether OpenAI, Sam Altman, and Greg Brockman committed any wrongdoing. A nine person jury will take part, but its verdict will be advisory. Judge Gonzalez Rogers will make the final ruling.

If the court determines that OpenAI is at fault, the case will move to a remedies phase. That stage will focus on what actions, if any, should follow.

In his lawsuit, Elon Musk has requested remedies ranging from billions of dollars in alleged wrongful gains to the removal of Altman and Brockman from their leadership roles at OpenAI.

On the stand, Elon Musk testified about his reaction when he learned of Microsoft's $10 billion investment in OpenAI in fall 2022.

"I reacted quite negatively because at a $10 billion scale, there's no way Microsoft is just giving that as a donation or any kind of charitable way. That's an amount of money that doesn't make any sense," Musk said.

OpenAI lawyer William Savitt pressed Elon Musk to confirm his donations totaled $38 million, far short of the "up to $1 billion" he had originally offered.

"Without me, OpenAI wouldn't exist!" Elon Musk said, raising his voice. "I contributed my reputation!" He added that he also named the company, saying "these things all have value."

Savitt also questioned whether OpenAI used Elon Musk's donations to pay rent at the Pioneer Building, which he leased and shared with Neuralink.

NEWS: Elon Musk testifies Tesla has no plans to develop AGI on day 4 of trial.

Under oath, Elon Musk confirmed Tesla is not developing artificial general intelligence and has no plans to do so. Tesla makes electric vehicles, battery energy storage systems and is developing the humanoid robot Optimus with AI capabilities.

During redirect, Elon Musk's attorney Steve Molo asked: "Does Tesla currently have any concrete plans to pursue AGI?" Elon Musk replied: "No."

On how Tesla's AI compares to OpenAI's work, Elon Musk explained: "Tesla's AI is meant for self-driving cars. As opposed to, you know, it's not a giant AI model that can answer any question."

Tesla has invested $2 billion into xAI and integrated a version of Grok into Tesla vehicles' media and navigation systems.
