For those paying attention to the situation in Pakistan, this letter from Joe Wilson is important. Pakistan sits on the precipice of plunging into a dangerous authoritarian state and embracing China as its primary ally. This has been in the works since Imran Khan was overthrown as PM in 2022, survived assassination and then was thrown unjustly in jail in solitary confinement for the last two years, against numerous rulings of Pakistan's Supreme Court. The Biden Administration did little to address the situation. We must work with the Trump Administration to take action to compel Pakistan to return to being a democracy with a robust Constitution and as a Western ally.
Grateful to send this letter today to the political and military leaders of Pakistan to Free Imran Khan. I will also be engaging the Trump administration on this issue.
US-Pakistan relations are strongest when Pakistan is democratic
Free Imran Khan
We salute Imran Khan's resilience.
True leaders will never bow to imperialism - and those millions of Pakistanis who love freedom and democracy will likewise never bend the knee to Washington's stooges.
Inquilab Zindabad!
Pakistan Zindabad!
Imran Khan Zindabad!
Hi @RichardGrenell
Is it possible that Imran Khan of Pakistan could receive an invitation to Trump’s inauguration? It would send a powerful symbolic message to the world and amplify the calls for his release.
I remain deeply concerned about the ongoing detention of Imran Khan.
His disgraceful treatment is an affront to the democratic rights of the people of Pakistan.
We must continue to speak up for the release of all political prisoners everywhere.
Michigan has a large Pakistani-American community, and I continue to hear concerns about the recent deadly protests in Pakistan. Pakistani authorities must protect citizens’ rights to free speech and peaceful assembly, hold violators accountable, and uphold Pakistan’s democracy.
I am deeply troubled by the recent reports alleging that dozens of protesters in Pakistan were killed by the national government, who are also being charged with covering up the horrendous act and unjustly imprisoning hundreds of other protesters.
These serious accusations must be investigated and addressed by @StateDept and our international partners.
Absolutely, freeing @ImranKhanPTI would serve justice and the conscience of the whole world, at least those paying attention, of an honest and innocent man unjustly imprisoned for doing all he could for the people of Pakistan. Thank you @RichardGrenell for your words and sounding the alarm for justice. As goes #pakistan so goes the world.
