A great basketball team isn't built on talent alone.
It's built on trust.
Trust in your teammates, trust in the system, and trust in the work you've put in together.
Somewhere along the way, I believe many coaches have forgotten that mistakes are supposed to be part of development.
A kid turns the ball over….bench.
Misses an assignment…..bench.
Makes the wrong read……yelling, running, or some other immediate punishment.
Then we wonder why athletes play scared, hesitate, hide from big moments, and constantly look toward the sideline or their parents after every mistake.
Accountability matters. Effort, attitude, and repeated carelessness should have consequences. But every mistake is not disobedience, laziness, or a character flaw. Sometimes a young athlete is simply learning.
If we punish every mistake before we teach through it, we are not developing confident decision-makers. We are developing athletes who become experts at avoiding blame.
Give kids room to fail, process, adjust, and try again.
That is not lowering the standard.
That is coaching.

Players often ask, Coach, how do I get better?
My answer?
Win the unnoticed battles:
- Sprint down in transition defense.
- Talk on every play.
- Be the guy diving for a loose ball.
🚨 PARENTS, THIS NEEDS TO BE SAID! 🚨
As a parent, what are YOU doing to make sure your student-athlete is getting the exposure they deserve? 🤔
Here’s the hard truth:
It is NOT your high school athletic program’s responsibility to get your child recruited.
If your athlete is in a program that shares the responsibility you're blessed.
Yes, coaches can help. Yes, programs can make connections. But at the end of the day, you have to take ownership of the recruiting process.
Stop assuming, “If he’s good enough, they’ll find him.”
There are thousands of talented student-athletes across the country fighting for the same opportunities.
🎥 Is the film updated?
📲 Is it getting in front of college coaches?
📚 Are the grades where they need to be?
🏈 Are you attending the RIGHT camps—not just every camp?
🤝 Are relationships being built with college programs?
📈 Are accomplishments being promoted consistently?
Playing well on Friday night is only part of the process.
You can’t expect college coaches to recruit a student-athlete they don’t know exists.
Talent creates potential. Exposure creates opportunities.
Take ownership. Be proactive. Have a plan.
Dream Big. Work Harder.

Your best player might not be the one who scores the most points.
It's often the one who sacrifices for the team, gets stops on defense, and inspires everyone else to dig a little deeper.
Every championship team has *that* player.
