Imports dont have to be reduced. Foriegn goods have to be sold at a price that will compete with Domestic goods - so prices actually fall.

@ElbXaCZ17v52794 @RealCalvin1 I keep hearing "the consumer pays the tariff". In reality, the exporter pays the tariff. This may translate in to higher cost for the consumer who also has the choice to buy a domestically produced, non tariffed good. So choice negates the tariff costs at retail.
