Glycogen synthesis is crucial for energy utilisation in humans, as glycogen is the excess glucose stored in the liver and muscles for future use. Glycogen levels can vary significantly from person to person, influenced by metabolic rates, physical activity and dietary habits. People diagnosed with Glycogen Storage Disorders have 100-200 times higher glycogen reserves. Excess glycogen triggers multiple adverse and toxic reactions, leading to myopathy, muscle wastage, liver and heart failure, serious cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative risks.
We report patented purine molecule scaffold as an orally active alternative to enzyme injections, potentially transforming treatment for Pompe disease and other GSD variants. Stay tuned.. @IITKanpur

Prof Alasdair McDowall AM – the recipient of Dubochet Nobel Medal 2017 – delivered a brilliant special evening lecture in FORCE-IICS 2025 on his journey toward discovery of rapid cooling of water to create vitrified glass-like state, while working with Prof Jacques Dubochet (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2017) at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory. His pioneering efforts afforded an invaluable tool to preserve biological samples in a hydrated state for high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy. An inspiring lecture touching on interdisciplinary science and service to the society.

Tradition of fun continues - Indo-German Workshop 2025 participants took a leisure trip to the Taunus, with drizzle and fog adding to the adventure and picturesque scenery. The Taunus Hills Nature Park is just outside Frankfurt and the second largest nature park in the Hessian region. It covers ~1,350 sq km area and provides perfect conditions for native flora and fauna, exciting hiking, climbing, cycling trails and canoe adventures.
