@ArinEvergale@judacris Tbf, the last major development they had outside of CS and a VR game was Portal 2 in 2011.
I partially believe that 30% fee is why that is. They don't have an entire ecosystem like Microsoft and Sony to support, so it just seems outrageous to me.
@G3t4w4yDr34m3r@Dexerto People don't hate woman, they hate stories where the woman is shoved in for the sake of being a woman.
Counter point. Walking dead Telltale, Metroid, Tomb Raider, Mirrors Edge.
@revenant_MMXX Clearly competitors can, otherwise valve would see no reason to threaten publishers who sell games cheaper elsewhere.
Valves monopoly has caused them to not release a relevant game since Portal 2.
Why develop when you can make 30% to do barely anything?
@ArinEvergale@judacris From my understanding, this is valves policy on pricing feature structure or not. Plus, That is an Ubisoft title on their storefront. Will Valve let them sell Half Life?
@RylesMeta Steam has been great, but capitalism should not be threatening developers passing on COG savings to consumers.
Imagine if Walmart banned suppliers from selling their products cheaper elsewhere.
@Biast12@Chrisness@Anast1mafilia Many of these games run off of epics engine.
Valve barely even makes games anymore because they make a killing off of fees and loot boxes.
@ayiearif13546@pinglyadya The problem isn't the best service.
The problem is steam forces developers to sell at the same price on every storefront even if it is cheaper for the developer to sell elsewhere and pass savings on to the consumer.
FTC cases usually hate this kind of behavior
@Palahace@defmetal@Awk20000 It is considered monopolistic behavior when you use your influence in the industry to prevent other companies from undercutting your pricing.
@Palahace@defmetal@Awk20000 Gas is cheaper in Texas then California because it's cheaper expense wise to sell it in Texas.
Imagine if the state of California prevented oil companies and gas stations from selling it cheaper in other states.
@Palahace@defmetal@Awk20000 The point is steam is asking for the same price but refusing to match the fee of the other platform.
The legal argument is it harms consumers by not giving them choice because companies are unable to pass off the savings of using other launchers to consumers.
@Palahace@defmetal@Awk20000 The problem isn't steams fee.
The problem is Steam threatens developers that try to pass on part of those 15% savings to the consumer.
If the company saves $8 and wants to pass on $4 to the customer, valve threatens to remove the game off steam.
@Ness_and_Sonic@ChimpSquared@RWSstudios Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft subsidize consoles that allow the developer to sell their games to consumers who could not otherwise afford gaming
Valve gives no hardware (don't try steam deck, It's no longer subsidized)
@SilverAnon03@MobShadic100@YTSirBlack1@SonicHacki They're taking a loss on it in Japan since their currency is very weak from severe inflation.
Fast food workers take home more than Japan graduates right now
@thegreencandle_@downbadcomment Imagine being a child and asking your mom why daddy chose his new family over them. Are they not good enough?
She needs to grow tf up
