Q4: USE POP CULTURE & CURRENT EVENTS AS TEACHING TOOLS! Our students are already talking/thinking about many of these topics outside of the classroom, so why not connect a core academic skill with interest-based topics?Ex: Assign a varied Newsela text set with a common goal/topic

Q3: I typically start class with an inspirational quote from a famous figure (like a YouTuber, artist, or author) my students look up to.We reflect on the quote and have quick, yet meaningful, discussions after. Plugging in a break like that does not take much time & is engaging.

Q2: I love to use peer-teaching as an opportunity for student leadership. Today, two students from my lit. accel. modeled a previous activity to a different lit. accel. class. The girls were up for the challenge and returned within minutes. Empowerment builds confidence!!!

Q1: My students know that they are trusted, loved, and respected as I consistently ask for their input and voice throughout the day! Whether we’re deciding on a new “may-do” during guided reading or an upcoming project format, allowing them to speak on and vote shows true trust.

A perk of having such a diverse class: One of our groups asked to present their project in English and Spanish for our classmate who does not speak English. This helped students learn words from both languages. This was a huge celebration! #ChampionsTogether #LeadFromEverySeat
