Presided over by H.E. President @WilliamsRuto, we attended the opening session of the 2026 World Health Summit (WHS) Regional Meeting at the United Nations Headquarters, Nairobi.

Themed, 'Reimagining Africa's Health Systems: Innovation, Integration and Interdependence', the three-day summit, hosted by Aga Khan University in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Africa CDC and WHO, has convened over 2,300 delegates from more than 50 countries, bringing together policymakers, scientists, innovators, development partners and industry leaders.

The meeting offers a strategic platform to deepen partnerships, exchange ideas and advance practical, evidence-based solutions for stronger health systems across the continent.

Key deliberations are focused on health security, Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and pharmaceutical sovereignty, with a shared commitment to building an inclusive and sustainable health systems for Africa.

Justice must prevail

The cold-blooded killing of Adam Mohamed, a young taxi driver, by trigger-happy officers at the Modika checkpoint on the outskirts of Garissa at 3am today is yet another stain in Kenya’s long and shameful history of police brutality and impunity in Northern Kenya.

This was reckless and unnecessary lethal force used against an unarmed civilian in the dead of night. Officers too quick to shoot first and invent explanations later, whether claiming a “traffic accident,” an “escape attempt,” or some other convenient falsehood, have turned what should be a routine checkpoint into a killing field.

Enough of the excuses. A young man trying to earn an honest living, and in this case helping a stranded friend, is now dead because those entrusted with authority showed no restraint, no professionalism, and no basic humanity. The officer responsible has been identified as Kyalo. He must be arrested and prosecuted without delay.

We condemn in the strongest terms this murderous abuse of power and the culture of unaccountable violence it represents. Kenya’s police have innocent blood on their hands once again.

Independent Policing Oversight Authority, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the national government must immediately conduct a transparent and independent investigation, secure all evidence, and ensure justice is delivered. No transfers, no cover-ups, and no endless “ongoing investigations” designed to bury the truth.

To the family of Adam Mohamed: your loss is heartbreaking, cruel, and unjust. The people of Garissa and all Kenyans who value human life demand justice, not condolences, excuses, or empty press statements.

The protests that followed in Garissa were fully justified. Citizens had every right to demand answers, and the use of tear gas against them only deepened the violation of their rights.

This cycle of extrajudicial killings must end. Kenyan lives are not target practice for bribe-seeking, overly aggressive officers. Hold Kyalo and any accomplices accountable now, or watch public trust in law enforcement collapse entirely into contempt. Trigger-happy policing is not law and order, it is state-sanctioned violence. STOP IT NOW.

Rigathi Gachagua claims teachers, in the new medical cover, are limited to KSh 1,200 daily. That is misleading.

The reality is that the Mwalimu Cover under this administration is one of the most comprehensive health schemes in the public sector.

Teachers now enjoy inpatient cover ranging from KSh 1 million to KSh 3 million, outpatient cover of up to KSh 450,000 and access to over 6,000 health facilities nationwide; services easily accessible through the Afyangu app.

What has changed is not the benefit, but the discipline in how public funds are used.

Held a consultative meeting with CRDF Global and Helios Intel AI to advance partnerships focused on scaling AI-driven solutions in the health sector.

Discussions centered on strengthening fraud detection, improving system interoperability and protecting digital health infrastructure.

Aligned with the USG–Kenya Bilateral Health Cooperation Framework and Kenya's Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, we explored practical pathways to expand investment in digital health, with emphasis on using AI to enhance disease surveillance and response.

Through the Kenya National Public Health Institute (KNPHI), we continue to strengthen epidemic preparedness by improving laboratory networks, risk communication and emergency response.

I reaffirmed our openness to global collaboration, noting the value of shared expertise in advancing the One Health approach and meeting the 7-1-7 target for timely detection and response to public health threats.

These partnerships will support national priorities by strengthening frontline surveillance, streamlining data systems and reducing duplication.

The meeting was attended by Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth; Chairman of the Board at CRDF Global, Alonzo Fulgham and Vice President, Dabren Wills; Co-Founder of Helios Intel AI, Joe Scheidler; Digital Health Agency CEO Eng. Anthony Lenayara among other Ministry officials.

Presided over the 3rd graduation ceremony at Hawa Kosar Islamic Centre, High School level, where we celebrated 25 young women who successfully completed their Islamic Studies program.

I commended the graduates and urged the community to continue supporting religious education as a foundation for nurturing morally upright and principled future generations.

Moreover, I issued a firm warning against fraud targeting the Social Health Authority (SHA). Already, five counties; Homa Bay, Bungoma, Mandera, Wajir and Kisii, have been flagged for suspicious medical claims, largely from privately owned facilities.

Since March 30, 12 facilities have been shut down over alleged fraud, with 24 currently under forensic audit and 250 under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

So far, 30 case files have been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and 18 facilities are in court. In total, over 1,000 facilities have been closed.

Reaffirming my mandate to deliver Universal Health Coverage (UHC), I declared zero tolerance for the misuse of public health funds and underscored my commitment to safeguarding every cent meant for the care of Kenyans.

The function was attended by religious and political leaders in Garissa Including County Commissioner Mr. Ramadhan Mwabudzo and a host of Members of the Garissa County Assembly.

Celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadhan, I joined thousands of Muslim faithful at the Sir Ali Muslim Club grounds in Nairobi for Eid ul-Fitr prayers.

I extended Eid Mubarak greetings to the Muslim community locally and internationally, and encouraged the faithful to sustain the spiritual discipline and prayerful momentum cultivated during Ramadhan, while continuing to care for the less fortunate in society.

I also called on the Opposition to focus on substantive policy issues; including Housing, infrastructure development, education reforms, agriculture, Universal Healthcare and the stability of the Kenyan Shilling, rather than personal attacks on the Person and Office of the President.

Moreover, I criticised the civil society organizations for the display of double standards. For more than a year and a half, they had watched without reaction as Opposition leaders slandered the President. However, they were quick to speak out and condemn the President when he chose to retaliate.

Eid ul-Fitr is a significant religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide, symbolizing gratitude, charity and communal harmony after a month of fasting, prayer and reflection.

As the Holy Month of Ramadhan draws closer to its end, I hosted an Iftar dinner at my Nairobi residence, bringing together senior government officials, diplomats, political leaders and industry figures in a spirit of unity and shared purpose.

The event was attended by the Head of Public Service, Hon. Felix Koskei, several Cabinet Secretaries, Governors and leaders from across political and economic sectors.

I expressed my gratitude to all who honoured the invitation and extended my warm wishes to the Muslim faithful, praying that this sacred season brings blessings and renewed strength.

Ambassadors and High Commissioners from several Muslim countries also graced the evening, adding an important diplomatic dimension and providing a moment for meaningful engagement that underscored both the significance of Ramadhan and the value of inclusive governance.

Present were my cabinet colleagues Rebeca Miano (Tourism), Hon. Soipan Tuya (Defence), Hon. Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), Hon. In the health sector, we reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening service delivery and accelerating the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), ensuring that reforms translate into accessible, quality and affordable healthcare for every Kenyan.
