@tkanarsky@mycoliza Nah that makes no sense.
If people just use the software, I do not even know that they exist (remember: no tracking).
So why could or should I resent them? How, even?
People actively making me very unpleasantly aware of them existing however.. well. But that's on them.
The @ECOVACS remote racist slur incident and press coverage: I received many questions and there is some confusion. The BLE RCE was not used, but they got initial access thru "credential stuffing". The "pin bypass" vuln might have been used afterwards. https://t.co/lcpNG3Eugf
Due to a Cease&Desist, the @DEFCON talk "Open Sesame-or how secure is your stuff in electronic lockers" moves to Sunday 11:30am. That way my counsel can review the situation and we have more time to amicably work out our differences. The panel and ECOVACS talk proceed as planned.
@TheHookUp1@JorgeFernandesz@fgraffagnino@iRobot@amazon Okay now we're at the point where the conversation has turned into a bad-faith one with "summaries" that don't sum up what was communicated but contain something else entirely.
And with that, I will not continue this further.
@TheHookUp1@JorgeFernandesz@fgraffagnino@iRobot@amazon Well why would I do that? I very much enjoy building Valetudo. It's kinda like my garden y'know?
A creative outlet where I can just freely do what I want with the added bonus that apparently it does provide value to some people. :)
@TheHookUp1@JorgeFernandesz@fgraffagnino@iRobot@amazon Eh sorta. Valetudo just solves my own problems.
Here the thinking is more like "the added cost of me putting the code online was 0 but the value it can provide to others is non-zero so upload it is"
As it turned out, the added cost wasn't 0 but that was the idea initially
@TheHookUp1@JorgeFernandesz@fgraffagnino@iRobot@amazon Eh well not sure I'd see it that way given that Nabu Casa is founded by the people that built HA before founding NC but doesn't matter.
The thing is that there is little point in actively trying to grow if you don't want to either monetize or recruit people for the cause.
@TheHookUp1@JorgeFernandesz@fgraffagnino@iRobot@amazon Not sure about Tasmota and WLED, but Home Assistant and ESPHome are both built by Nabu Casa who sell a subscription to their service and with that have a strong incentive to grow the userbase because more users means more subscriptions.
Nothing wrong with that of course.
@TheHookUp1@fgraffagnino@iRobot@amazon Uh I'm not sure if I understand correctly because you can still use Valetudo? I'm not asking you to not use it. Please, feel free to use it. Just don't make content out of it.
That's also clearly documented in the repo btw:

The commit is from 3 months ago
@TheHookUp1@fgraffagnino@iRobot@amazon Well as said, I'd really prefer that you wouldn't do that at all. You can of course still do it anyway, but after I've specifically asked you not to, it would be not very nice to do regardless.
Especially since Valetudo is completely free. I only want people to respect boundaries
@fgraffagnino@TheHookUp1@iRobot@amazon The issue isn't the Channel - which is indeed high quality - but rather coverage in general.
People are supposed to first have a problem and then Google for a solution.
If you tell random people that haven't had that problem that a solution exists they usually get... difficult
@TheHookUp1@fgraffagnino@iRobot@amazon Please don't. Video coverage is generally a pretty bad idea for the project as - as you mentioned referring to views - the target audience doesn't really line up with the target audience of the project, leading to increased support overhead and general unpleasantness :(
We had our @ecovacsrobotics#robot hacking talk recently at the @ccc 37c3. (lawn mover, vacuum, air purifier). We got some audio issues due to a fire alarm in the building. The slides, video and demo of the pin bypass (aka "Live video ap(p)ocalypse") here: https://t.co/6KSoiOVVe5
The @CCC Congress (37C3) is actually happening! Our talk "Sucking dust and cutting grass: reversing robots and bypassing security" will be on Wednesday, 2023-12-27 (subject to change).
It is also exactly 6 years after my first ever CCC talk back in 2017 :) #37c3#IoT
@S1n1st3rSecuri1@pwnEIP Well, you can use your robots to take great pictures. So no reason to have a smartphone. (pictures taken by Dreame W10 Pro and L10s Ultra)
@DarknetDiaries@Bowser_GaryOPA What you said about the spirit of the GPL is incorrect.
I bet you've seen the "Free as in Freedom not Free as in Free Beer" meme on the internet many times.
That's what that thing is referring to.
