Striving for AGI optimizes for raw intelligence, not for smartness, self-agency, entrepreneurship skills, or generally effective intelligence. That’s why we’re going to get AI super-mathematicians and AI auto-researchers before any meaningful AI entrepreneurs or general workers.

It’s a standard “If you’re so smart, why aren’t you rich?” question, now applied to the AI context.

If intelligence were a reliable predictor of economic impact, math professors would be among the richest people on Earth.

Which is clearly not the case (except for Jim Simons, of course).
