Delighted to co-host with @SAEmbassyBrusse a breakfast on Accelerating Impact of Partnerships to Deliver Transformative Health Solutions in Africa.

Breaking: Kirsty Coventry has been elected the new International Olympic Committee President. The Zimbabwean is a two-time Olympic swimming champion and the first woman as well as the first African to hold the post. At 41, she’s also the youngest ever IOC president.
The world is forgetting about the people of Sudan.
Half of the country’s population needs lifesaving assistance.
But they need more than humanitarian support.
They need an end to the bloodshed.
They need peace.
The only path out of this horror is a political solution.
Really inspiring to hear the work @Nakamba_11 is leading to support girls’ education in the community he grew up in! Excitement levels in the embassy were through the roof that day 🤩
The beginning of the end! Coming close to wrapping up four years in amazing Zimbabwe 🇿🇼. A privilege to spend an evening celebrating and thanking friends working on gender, disability, LGBT+, social protection (and many more). Shout out to my co-host @edbell75 - it was a blast!

Margaret’s story is one of fighting for the freedom to achieve one’s potential and the wasted opportunities when barriers are put in women’s way. I am the product of strong women and I am proud to play my part in the global fight for women’s #RightsFreedomPotential 6/6
On this International Women’s Day, I would like to share the inspirational story of My Great Great Aunt Margaret McNeil who was defiant against social norms and expectations in 1800s Scotland to achieve her dreams. 🧵 1/6

In 🇮🇳 she specialised in women’s health & building local expertise. Relatives say she had a deep sense of duty. When she returned to 🏴, she was reported to be somewhat depressed – understandable considering the loss of her life’s work and identity. 5/6 #RightsFreedomPotential
Looking forward to this #IWD2023 chat Tuesday with @MarjorieMpundu of @WorldBank. We’ll be sharing our own career stories & bits of advice that helped us along the way. Really hope there’ll be useful tips in here for young women plotting their career paths #RightsFreedomPotential

Incredible anecdote about one of the first women to have a child while being a diplomat. Grateful for generations of women before me who have refused to accept the status quo, determined to do my bit in turn via FCDO Women’s Network 💪 and happy parental leave to @dave_clay!
Previous generations weren’t so lucky. Relieved that the Foreign Office has moved on from the (not so distant) days when a female diplomat had to occasionally hide her baby in a filing cabinet because of the lack of provision for young families 👇🏻 (2/2)
