Many FL prisons are so infested with rats & roaches they crawl on the incarcerated as they try to sleep. Droppings of both trigger asthma & other serious illnesses. This, & no AC in 75% of FL prisons, could drive you mad! @FL_Corrections clean up your #RoachHotel! #BeatTheHeat

See this thread I’m a part of right now is why I don’t belong to groups/orgs. No one is truly ready to admit how sick the idea of placing a human inside a cage is when they make mistakes because of trauma. We keep building more cages and having more trauma. It’s an endless pit 1/

They do this to children. Children!!!! Data has proven that our system doesn't work. They need more programs to prepare these men and women for reentry and to transition back into society. It is SO SAD that these deaths- that could be prevented. Keep happening in the US prison system. States need to do better. All of the $$$$$ that is allotted to run these prisons- you would think that AC would not cost that much.

One of our biggest issues in society is this "revolving door," where too many men and women are being released from jails and prisons worse off than when they went in. They lose homes, families, jobs, and self-worth during their incarceration, with very few resources upon release. Law Enforcement gets thrown into the mix, and their resources are also limited. There ARE programs, but not nearly enough and certainly not in every facility. We need to duplicate the ones that are effective and make them mandatory, with oversight committees that include members of the public and prison reform activists, NOT appointed political hacks!

I'm NOT soft on crime, btw...but even the most violent offenders have a reason for their actions and behaviors. We have to keep society safe. Certain crimes deserve the most severe punishment. But provide mental health and drug addiction services for incarcerated persons, in addition to education and training opportunities, religious/faith community support (like God Behind Bars), relationship counseling, and "how to make it on the outside" classes. Even if they'll never be released because of the crime(s) they committed, work toward the goal of reform.

Last thought...sentencing must be fairly applied, and it's not. We have overcrowded jails and prisons...how many inmates committed non-violent "victimless" crimes, have paid their debt to society, and should be released. How many shouldn't be incarcerated in the first place?

Sorry this is long, but it's an issue that I don't have the opportunity to speak about as much as I'd like.
