@FineGael Is this a Joke? Radar that can tell us what we can't do anything about? Sonar to do the same below the sea? The DF abandoned by Successive FG defence ministers since 2011? Armoured vehicles that spent more time up on blocks than protecting the troops overseas. No closer to LOA2!
@86thLeinster@ThomasByrneTD Peacekeeping is absolutely an armed intervention, with the consent of all belligerents involved, regardless of whether the UN gives it a certificate of approval or not
The people most loudly supporting retention of the Triple Lock were demanding the Irish Naval Service be deployed to a warzone, without permission of a belligerent, a few months ago.
Let’s destroy another false idol.
UN peacekeeping and its exclusivity regarding peacekeeping.
The number of UN mandates have collapsed in the last decade.
The last new mandate was in 2014.
Alongside this has been a reduction in funding and personnel.

It's an observable fallacy to claim otherwise.

Ireland is a non-aligned neutral country but we must be able to defend ourselves, on land, at sea, in the air and online.
Joined in discussion by @BerryCathal, who researched the paper, and Professor @BrigidLaffan, Ambassador @MelittaSchubert 🇦🇹 and Professor Ben Tonra.

NVE with no Lasers?
NVE worn but not used?
Using sights in the dark with no torch?
Standing in doorways?
What was actually happening here?
@DF_COS are there standards anymore? Were there ever?

Cadets conduct Military Operations in Urban Terrain, operating as an infantry section within a demanding and realistic built up environment. The exercise challenges them to plan, communicate and adapt in real time, applying tactical doctrine while managing risk, tempo and control under pressure.
Through progressive scenarios, cadets develop leadership, teamwork and decision making skills essential to modern operations, preparing them morally, mentally and physically for their future roles as leaders in Óglaigh na hÉireann.

@soldier_destin@IRLDeptDefence Her position has been untenable since we couldn't fill overseas trips anymore, couldn't get ships to sea, the MV Matthew miracle, Uniform tender farce, Body armour farce & the continued decline of the DF
Is the Sec Gen screaming from the rooftops to the minister that we are in a security crisis and woefully under-prepared?
I seriously doubt it, but hope I’m wrong
An Irish general is now at the helm of the EU’s military committee. But what is his strategy?
