I am horrified that a car has been deliberately set alight outside the home of the family of Salma Yaqoob, a wonderful prominent anti-racist and peace campaigner in Birmingham.
I hope the police take this shocking incident seriously. Sending my solidarity to Salma & her family.
Insane framing.
He was anally gang-raped.
He was severely beaten and then anally gang-raped on camera. Both a knife and a taser were reportedly used.
There was a hole in his rectal wall. He got surgery for it.
Because he was anally gang-raped by the IDF (on camera).
He also had 7 broken ribs and other injuries as well.
After it happened, Israelis staged multiple large protests in the streets. Not because they believe these soldiers did anything wrong, but because they were infuriated that the soldiers were arrested for anally gang-raping a Palestinian on camera.
These protests weren’t just random people. They included multiple high ranking Knesset members (their Congress) who defended the anal gang/rapists.
They didn’t stop there. They went after the lawyer who leaked the video. She was publicly smeared, was forced to resign, and was arrested.
And now the anal gang-rapists who were caught on camera have had their charges dropped. They didn’t win in court. They weren’t somehow exonerated. The charges were completely and indefensibly dropped. The Jerusalem Post reports that there was sufficient evidence to take this to trial.
This is part of a larger pattern of torture and impunity. NYT and many other major outlets have extensively detailed the abuses at the Sde Teiman torture factory. NYT reported that Prisoners lose 30+ pounds, a nurse was anally raped by a metal rod, another man was raped by a dog, and another was anally raped by a fiery hit rod until he died. Yes, the NYT reported all of that. I’ll share sources in the replies. Torture and sexual assault are commonplace at Sde Teiman, and many prisoners die in the process.
The UN concluded that rape from IDF soldiers is so commonplace that it constitutes official “strategy of war”.
And of course these monsters virtually never face jail time. Because Israelis by and large don’t have any problem with any of it.
This is just what their society does.
They torture Palestinians.
My father has been under arrest for 845 days. For the past six weeks, he has been kept in solitary confinement in a death cell with zero transparency. His sisters have been denied every visit, even with clear court orders allowing access. There have been no phone calls, no meetings and no proof of life. Me and my brother have had no contact with our father.
This absolute blackout is not a security protocol. It is a deliberate attempt to hide his condition and prevent our family from knowing whether he is safe.
Let it be clear: the Pakistani government and its handlers will be held fully accountable legally, morally and internationally for my father’s safety and for every consequence of this inhumane isolation.
I call on the international community, global human rights organisations and every democratic voice to intervene urgently. Demand proof of life, enforce court ordered access, end this inhumane isolation and call for the release of Pakistan’s most popular political leader who is being held solely for political reasons.
The UK has a prayer space problem—and we’ve all felt it.
Mosques closed between jama’ah. Tight salah windows in winter. Sisters left with even fewer options.
It shouldn’t be this hard to pray.
That’s why we’re proud to introduce Simply Smashed’s open prayer policy👇🏾:
At Simply Smashed, we believe salah should always be accessible.
From today, any Simply Smashed location you visit will offer a place to pray—brothers and sisters alike.
Just ask our staff, and we’ll make it happen.
And you don’t have to be a customer. If you need to pray, our doors are open for you.
We know mosques are doing their best. Many are donation-based and rely on volunteers, making it difficult to stay open all day.
That’s where businesses like ours can step in to help fill the gaps.
This is about more than burgers.
We’re committed to making prayer spaces available everywhere we grow:
- Every Simply Smashed location will have dedicated prayer facilities, inshaAllah.
- We’ll ensure both brothers and sisters are prioritized in every space.
But our vision goes beyond us.
Imagine a network of accessible prayer spaces across the UK—cafés, restaurants, and businesses creating solutions for the community.
No Muslim should have to miss salah or pray in a car park because they couldn’t find a space.
This is our step forward, and we hope it inspires others to join us.
We build with barakah, and we’re proud to serve our community in more ways than one.
If you’ve ever struggled to find a prayer space, this is for you. If you’re a business owner, let’s build this together.
If this ceasefire happens, it is because of the immovable and tenacious bravery and ingenuity of the Palestinian resistance, and the humanitarian interventions of Lebanese and Yemeni forces. Palestinian liberation is inevitable; Zionism collapses in its shadow.
1/ The Syrian revolution and the Palestinian fight against Israeli occupation are two sides of the same struggle: a fight for justice and liberation from tyranny. Assad, however, serves Israel’s interests in ways that undermine this shared cause. Here’s how: 🧵
Video shows the moment an ambulance crew was directly shot at by Israeli soldiers in Nuseirat, Gaza. Hours earlier, a group of journalists were reportedly targeted by an Israeli quadcopter in the same area.
In the last few weeks there have been serious and concerning developments regarding my sons’ father, Imran Khan’s treatment in prison. The Pakistan authorities have stopped all visits to him by his family and his lawyers. They have also postponed all court hearings. In addition to cutting off in- person visits, and in defiance of a court order, his weekly calls to his sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, who are British and who live in London, were stopped on 10th September. We have received reports that the authorities have now turned off the lights and electricity in his cell and he is no longer allowed to leave his cell at any time. The jail cook has been sent on leave. He is now completely isolated, in solitary confinement, literally in the dark, with no contact with the outside world. His lawyers are concerned about his safety and well-being.
These actions come in the context of ongoing targeting of Imran’s family, as well as his party (PTI) members and supporters in an attempt to silence them and all political opposition in Pakistan. Imran’s nephew, Hassan Niazi, a civilian, has been detained in military custody since August 2023. More recently, Imran Khan’s sisters, Uzma and Aleema Khan, who have continued to speak out on his behalf, have also been arrested as they made their way peacefully to a demonstration and they are currently being held in jail, despite there being no proper or lawful basis for their imprisonment.
In June this year the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found that Imran is unlawfully and arbitrarily detained and called for his immediate release.
As a matter of urgency , we are calling for Imran Khan’s release, and for the release of his sisters and nephew as well as for his sons’ contact with their father to be re-established, so that they may have assurance first-hand that he is well and not being mistreated.
What a wanker holding the microphone 🎤. How dare you decide we don't need this tonight. Children are getting slaughtered and limbs torn from their bodies and being the survivors treated without anaesthetics. But you want to silence those compassionate enough to say no. Fuck you.
