Today is World IBD Day — a day to raise awareness for the millions of people living with Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis.
Far too many patients suffer in silence while managing the daily challenges of this invisible disease. You likely know someone affected by IBD, as the rates continue to rise, with approximately 1 in 140 Canadians living with Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative Colitis.
I am incredibly proud to be part of the amazing team at the University of Calgary’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit. Every single day, this team works tirelessly to improve the lives of patients living with IBD. Their compassion, dedication, and commitment to patient care never stops.
This year, my mission is to help fundraise for a new intestinal ultrasound machine. This technology is transforming how we diagnose, monitor, and manage IBD by allowing physicians to assess disease activity quickly and non-invasively at the bedside. It is truly a game-changer for patient care.
Our center is recognized as one of the world leaders in intestinal ultrasound, but we cannot do it alone. Every contribution makes a difference. If you are able, please consider donating — even $5 can help us move closer to improving care for patients living with IBD.
Together, we can make a difference. 📷
Today we lost a giant in the IBD world — Dr. Brian Feagan. His impact on inflammatory bowel disease research is impossible to overstate. He fundamentally shaped how we design and interpret clinical trials in IBD, turning rigorous methodology into meaningful progress for patients. He was a visionary who bridged science, medicine, and compassionate care — and a mentor who generously shared time, insight, and encouragement with generations of clinicians and researchers.
Thank you, Dr. Feagan, for elevating the field — and for reminding us that the highest purpose of science is to make life better for others. Your legacy will live on. We are sending prayers and condolences to his family at this time.

It was my pleasure to present the maintenance data from UPA phase III program in moderate to severe UC a the late breaker session at #UEGWeek. Every time I see that clinical effect size I look forward to better days for our patients.
Today is the day to celebrate the courage and resiliency of all those diagnosed with IBD. To my patients, you have taught me so much over the years and I’m a better physician and person for it. #worldibdday2021#IBD#IBDAWareness https://t.co/MudeWPeUvz
