Inspired by the launch of @IBDWomen it seemed a shame not to set up a similar account dedicated, but not exclusive to, the issues men with IBD face. It's early days yet but to set the ball rolling can I have your suggestions for topics we should cover #IBDMen
1/2 It’s important to keep to schedule on #biologics. My 1st #stelara#ustekinumab is due for #crohns today (8wks post infusion). @LloydsPharmacy said a nurse was coming to administer – I chase it as not heard and they have n/o avail for a WEEK.
I need some help for an article I'm writing! I cannot remember how I felt when told I had #crohns. I know many of the Twitter #IBD family have been diagnosed more recently and it will be clearer in your memory. Can you sum up your feelings in 2 or 3 words? Thanks
Erectile dysfunction was present in >90% of men with newly diagnosed #IBD. Authors recommend screening for sexual dysfunction in #IBD and appropriate referral for treatment as needed. https://t.co/bLgQqJgpxC
@IBDwomen Interesting reading in a 2017 study "...a group of participants particularly vulnerable to the development of IBD characterized by #psychosomatic influences...participants with high expression of #neuroticism, #alexithymic & impulsive traits, possibly of female gender."
A small but telling poll. 91% of our #IBDwomen say they struggle to engage in or enjoy sex as a result of their #IBD. Another nod to the absolute importance of whole-person care.
How can things improve? What help is available and how can it be accessed?
@IBDwomen@ibdhour We're due for another chat. Maybe a sort of "open mike" session when we can all discuss anything #IBD related that is on our minds. Would give some good pointers for subjects for #IBDWomen and #IBDMen to expand upon
#JustSaying
#IBDMen has got off to a bit of a slow start! It's a question of finding some time. Will get a web page up over the next week or so. To kick it off would anyone like to write a guest post(s) on the issues they face as an #IBDman? Beginners welcome! I'm happy to help. Please DM me
@MondayNightIBD The very first drug my GP gave me was #Nacton to treat my "spastic colon". Have never worked out what he was thinking but in those days doctors were "gods" and you didn't question them
@PatTabler@ColitisCrohnsHQ That's great news that you've regained your life. Surgery is very often the last resort but maybe should be considered as a treatment option before all drug options have failed
It is no exaggeration now to say that IBD has unfortunately become a global pandemic. We need to work out what aspects of genetics, the microbiome and the environment are responsible. We want to work towards CURE and PREVENTION.
@n1_ckl@Sahara88uk I've noticed that. I know someone who would be able to shed some light on this but might not want to pre-empt her forthcoming academic work @lucy_prodgers
While UK gastro's great and good are huddled at #BSG2018, may I politely 'abuse' that hashtag to let you know I'm launching my #IBD patient blog, The Perianal Diaries, in a few weeks or so. Follow @perianaldiaries for info. Thanks!
