Inspired by the launch of @IBDWomen it seemed a shame not to set up a similar account dedicated, but not exclusive to, the issues men with IBD face. It's early days yet but to set the ball rolling can I have your suggestions for topics we should cover #IBDMen

@IBDwomen Interesting reading in a 2017 study "...a group of participants particularly vulnerable to the development of IBD characterized by #psychosomatic influences...participants with high expression of #neuroticism, #alexithymic & impulsive traits, possibly of female gender."

A small but telling poll. 91% of our #IBDwomen say they struggle to engage in or enjoy sex as a result of their #IBD. Another nod to the absolute importance of whole-person care.

How can things improve? What help is available and how can it be accessed?

@IBDwomen @ibdhour We're due for another chat. Maybe a sort of "open mike" session when we can all discuss anything #IBD related that is on our minds. Would give some good pointers for subjects for #IBDWomen and #IBDMen to expand upon

@MondayNightIBD The very first drug my GP gave me was #Nacton to treat my "spastic colon". Have never worked out what he was thinking but in those days doctors were "gods" and you didn't question them

@PatTabler @ColitisCrohnsHQ That's great news that you've regained your life. Surgery is very often the last resort but maybe should be considered as a treatment option before all drug options have failed

It is no exaggeration now to say that IBD has unfortunately become a global pandemic. We need to work out what aspects of genetics, the microbiome and the environment are responsible. We want to work towards CURE and PREVENTION.
