#IHL protects humanitarian workers delivering life-saving aid. The Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement’s principles of neutrality & impartiality are a cornerstone of its mode of action. @RedCrossLebanon volunteers & staff tending to the wounded are #NotATarget & must be protected.
The ICRC has a unique role in promoting and disseminating the rules of war, like international humanitarian law (IHL).
Parties to armed conflicts, international bodies, courts, and tribunals worldwide have the main responsibility to comply with and uphold the laws of war 👇🏽

Respect for the Red Cross and Red Crescent emblems is what has allowed us to help the most vulnerable people around the world for 160 years. ⛑️

They must not be attacked.
They are not part of the fight.
Urban warfare devastates childhoods, exposing children to unique dangers and long-lasting trauma.
Children must be protected, always.

Horrific frontline news reports can leave the impression the laws of war are rarely respected, but international humanitarian law’s protections undoubtedly mitigate some of the worst effects of war.
Though it’s clear respect for #IHL must be strengthened.
When humanitarian workers and volunteers are not protected, the people we serve are the ones who suffer the most.
Violence against humanitarians must stop.
We unreservedly condemn the attack that killed three of our colleagues in Ukraine today and injured another two @ICRC staff members.
We are outraged and our hearts go out to their families and to our team in Ukraine.
International humanitarian law #IHL prohibits all forms of sexual violence, no matter the gender of the victim or who the perpetrator is, and this is a prohibition that applies to all parties to all armed conflicts.

Our organization was established under the Geneva Conventions, the most widely ratified treaties in the world with 196 countries signatories.
Today our mission remains the same: to help and protect people caught up in war and violence.
On International Day of the Disappeared, we honor the memory of the 7,600+ individuals still missing from the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After three decades, their families continue to search for answers. They deserve to know what happened to their loved ones.
