For me personally; FOSS (free and open-source) engines are the future, I want to invest in that. It's been so much fun to work with Godot past couple of days and can't wait to check out the other engines. If you keep on choosing Unity, please do. But you've had your wake-up call.
It's a bit early but still wanted to show Starter Kit City Builder for @godotengine! The code is super simple, it works using Godot's GridMap component (basically tilemap for 3D objects).
Will be free, open source and will come with new game assets!
Can I also just briefly say that I once asked @UnrealEngine to host my game assets on their marketplace and they were like 'we got u fam' and made an entirely custom page promoting my game assets??

@NootboxGames Wishlisted! Big fan of Metroidvania games. I will definitely be a customer when the game is released. And I promise to only install the game once!
My wife and I have worked on Rune Fencer Illyia full-time for SIX years, with no publisher and until recently, no funding!
It is made in Unity. We've invested our lives into making our dream game, and their recent changes put our futures at risk.

I have this feeling that now is probably a good time to mention I have a comprehensive guide to UE5 C++ !
It's quite long...so bookmark it and use it as reference while learning C++!

Unreal Engine 5.3 is now available, with enhancements to core rendering, developer iteration and virtual production toolsets!
Also included, experimental new rendering, Skeletal Editor, Chaos Cloth and SMPTE ST 2110 support 🔧

@Mirs_____@BippinBits@DomeKeeper In my case, I learned best with the documentation, which is very well written: https://t.co/IcopLANnl0
However, Youtube has some great resources as well. Both HeartBeast and GDQuest have excellent tutorials.

@Mirs_____@BippinBits@DomeKeeper As someone who knows C# well, I actually found GDScript to be faster for me. Even back when I was a beginner with GDScript. I seem to be able to write cleaner code faster and the code tends to be more readable than C#. Just my two cents.
@GameMakerEngine We are currently using Unreal on a VR project. However, I've never stopped being a fan of GameMaker. It's the engine that got me started as an indie developer. Also, there are talks we may use GameMaker on our next project. Keep being awesome!
@shidygames A key point: Godot is all about "nodes". Similar to Unity components and even prefabs, when you need to add something, you add a node. Just simply choose what type of node you need (such as sprite or collision), then you can attach a script to that node to extend functionality.
We only succeed when you succeed. Our 5% royalty model only kicks in after your first $1M in gross revenue, meaning that if you make $1,000,001 you owe us 5 cents. And this is per title!
Also, revenue generated from the Epic Games Store will be excluded from that 5% royalty.
